Wife got a few purses from a sale. We always roll the dice with purses because you never know what you might get and we are up more than we are down. Got a purse and couldnt authenticate it on my own because I couldnt find any examples to compare. It was built really well though and everything pointed to it being real. Ebay authenticated and sold it for 4x for what I would have sold it for. Even with their cut I still made 4x. So far the experience has been great.

What is the cost for this service and is it eBay who actually completes the sale.?

Ebay does not complete the sale. Ebay authenticate is the same as the old "Ebay valet" program only in this instance ebay sellers are authenticating and selling luxury bags.

My biggest loss selling on eBay was a designer bag. Buyer pulled the empty box scam and I said never again.
I sold a Chanel bag through ebay authenticate when they had the first promotion where you get 90% of the sales price. There is no downside that I could see. If the buyer opens a case, that's on the partnered seller. My bag sold for more than estimated and they deposited the money in my Paypal account in less than a week. I was happy.

There is no cost to you. There are only a handful of brands they take. They send you a label, you mail it to a seller on their program and they have it authenticated. When the listing goes live, you get an email and when it sells, you get Paypal money.

Sure there's a cost to the seller. This valet-style program takes a commission from the sale price. You may not pay out of pocket upfront, but you do let them keep a chunk of the sales price. Compare it to listing the item on your own where you would keep the full amount.

I'm glad it worked out well for the OP. I've read from others who said the service undervalued their bags and they ended up with a minimal amount after all was said and done.

So if it is found to be a fake, what happens? Do they keep it or send it back and who pays for the return shipping?

Read the FAQ on the page I linked above. It they can't authenticate it they send it back and they pay return ship.

So, if it's claimed as SNAD, it's Ebay's problem, not yours I hope.
It will not affect you in the least. The seller eBay partners with takes the hit. eBay may have some sort of deal with the seller to mitigate the damage but it would not be your problem.

ebay authenticate when they had the first promotion where you get 90% of the sales price.
Ebay runs promotions at times when ebay's cut is only 10%, but the fee is usually 20% of the sales price. In other words, the seller gets 80%.
If ebay (or whomever) takes the hit for SNAD and I assume there are no FVFs and/or shipping costs, it's not a bad deal.

Sounds like you did very well good job. Best regards

A thought occurred (tired of trying to figure out the junk stuff I bought at auctions this week):
Is there any way to see only authenticated items - is it a drill down yet? Yes, I know I could look but ...
I know mikey did well but I wonder how the items are priced. As we all know, valet was a disaster in that regard. Ebay gets pricing assistance from the "experts?"

Sold my bag yesterday, got paid today. They sold it for 520, I got 470 out the door. I have nothing to say bad against that one. I would have probably sold it for 100 or 200 dollars if I was lucky. They paid for everything. I ended up paying 10 percent or so. I am happy, someone else is happy and my customer is probably happy. I proved my wife wrong about that one. So I am up on that front. I dont know about underselling something but if I make 4x of what was paid for the item I am happy. I did get the bag for a great deal.
