To the point. Ebay is under the delusion that, they are entitled too my SSN to sell. Just what I want to do give another company my SSN, its bad enough with credit card company's being hacked.

That is incorrect. Back in 2011/2012 PP started requiring SSNs because of the IRS regulations regarding 1099Ks.

@glad2badad2002 wrote:... and if they hadn't eliminated Paypal as an option, then we wouldn't be having to provide this extra information. eBay had a choice.
That isn't really accurate. PP has the same laws to abide by as Ebay does. In 2020 the enhanced Anti Money Laundering laws were enacted and they have guidelines on what is required to identify people. And IRS has their requirements. Ebay is simply doing what the LAWS REQUIRE them to do.
You are smart to be protective of your personal information. But keep in mind if you still write checks, on every one you have EVERY sent out, your bank routing number and your account number is preprinted on those checks. On Bank Websites, they freely give away their bank routing numbers. So I don't think your bank account info is as secure as you'd like to believe.
As to your SSN, well not much I can really say about that other than Federal law Requires Ebay to get that information.
And without this info, MP can't transfer money to you. It's a personal choice and you have to do what is best for you.

Required by law? Since when? Since last year? I've been on eBay for 20+ years, and managed to go without providing them my SSN. I've been selling my own stuff that I don't need or that may be valuable for other folks, not much for profit, and often for charity.
Putting my identity at risk for selling a dozen of CDs or old magazines or books per year is not an option for me.
People like me must boycott eBay.
eBay can go and fork itself, pardon moi France. Good buy, eBay, I don't need you, I have Amazon and others instead. Wish you bad luck!
And yes, I'll write my reps and ask them when at last they're going to protect us? How many hacking scandals do we need to see until we stop businesses to collect private info?

And those sellers not in MP do not have to supply SSNs, but to register for MP you then need your SSN, bank routing number and bank account number. Your identity doesn't become more at risk than it was the day before when you give this info to Ebay. Ebay isn't going to suddenly reduce their security on the system so that your personal data is more at risk.

This is a false statement. Your identity is subjected to increased risk every time you supply anyone with your social security number. You aren't a security expert and should probably not be advising people on this. There are inherent risks in handing this information to eBay.

With PayPal you paid 2.9% plus a $0.30 transaction fee on the total transaction including any state taxes collected by eBay. You also paid eBay's final value fees and the 10% shipping fee. The final value fee was variable depending on the category you sold in but most categories are 10%
Therefore, on average your fees paid between the two companies was 12.9% plus a $0.30 transaction fee
With Managed Payments you pay 12.35% plus a $0.30 transaction fee on the total amount including any state taxes.
With cancellations and returns with PayPal processing payments your PayPal fees are not refunded.
On cancellations and returns Managed Payments only the $0.30 processing fee is not refunded.
So now tell me which is the better alternative.

Well more good news. eBay is planning on bringing the Chinese sellers into MP beginning in April 2021.

And life is full of risks. There are people who don't trust banks and won't deposit their money there. There are people who won't use a credit card to pay. There are people who won't use online bill pay. Some people still write checks to pay.
It's true that every time your personal information is provided anywhere there is a risk. Every government agency has been hacked at one time or another, including the IRS.
Each person just decides how much risk they are willing to take. No one can force you do do anything. But every company can decide how they choose to run their platform.
As MP is going to be the way eBay chooses to manage sales, then sellers either provide their SSN and bank information or they will no longer be able to sell since they haven't provided the mechanism to receive payment.
PayPal is not gone they just aren't the company contracted by eBay to process payments for sellers anymore. Ayden does.

Of course you didn't have to give eBay your SSN, because they weren't handling your payments. Now you have to, or you can't list your dozen CDs a year, which I'm sure will be sorely missed. eBay isn't going to risk fines from the Feds just to keep you happy.

Yes, I have said and Ebay has said they plan to have all sellers in MP by the end of the year. It has only been posters that said it doesn't apply to sellers from China, not Ebay.
However I wasn't aware of a date. Do you have a link to where you read this?

China being onboarded to MP.
Read the Payments section of the Ebay News. Lots of interesting articles in there. Under Discussions over on the right hand side.

@readabouthorses Very interesting I think that this is a good thing. I wonder how they are going to be able to contact CS in the MP dept when we can't unless we call during the few hours they are open a day.

eBay doesn't care. Full speed ahead just like the Titanic. All they care about is lining the pockets of shareholders.
