Did you mean:

EBay commission

Can anyone kindly explain this to me:

Three days ago, I sold a South Sydney Rabbitoh's cooler-bag to a guy in Chile, being a huge Russell Crowe Fan. The Sales price was $24 and I had charged him $22.80 for postage - Total $44.80.   Ebay sent me an insane "payout" of just $16.91 - meaning that they took a 65.3% commission of $28.71 (There were NO "held funds")  Seeing as the subsequent postage was $33.00 of which I now had only $16.91 (yes...that was my fault)

I lost that bag for the privilege of paying $16.09.

They "payout details" showed only this:

Historic South Sydney Rabbitohs cooler/lunch bag. Still NEW
Juan Mauricio Latorre (lato-cl2014)

Completed
USD 46.80
Less -USD 5.84 Total Fees
USD 40.96

WHERE did $16.91 come from?

Re: EBay commission

Are you telling me Ebay keeps ALL the shipping cost - whatever it is  -  AND charges you commission on it as well?  What are you supposed to pay the shipping costs WITH then?

If you are using calculated shipping or have a flat rate shipping charge EBay does NOT keep the shipping money the buyer pays you when they pay for the transaction. However, if you are purchasing your labels through eBay, personally I don't, and your settings are setup to deduct the ACTUAL label cost from your payout then yes purchasing the label through eBay will reduce your payout by the cost of the label.

If you purchase your labels elsewhere then eBay does NOT keep the shipping money the buyer paid you that is included in your payout. Of course you would have to buyer the label with external funds or charge it to a credit card since you would have to purchase the label before you received your payout. I use Pirate Ship to purchase my labels and upload the tracking information to the eBay order. I use a cash back credit card to purchase those labels so I get a bit back which reduces my selling costs by a little bit.

Re: EBay commission

Postage paid by your buyer will be sent to you along with the item price minus fees.  If you purchase your postage on ebay, that amount will be deducted on your payment summary.

To see what percentage you were charged on your item you need to look for that information which is shown on your sold item.   Pull up your sold item and click on the three little dots to the left of your gallery photo, then scroll down & click on "view payment details", once you get there go to the far right and click "view".   On that page scroll down to see all the details of your fees & percentages.

Now look at your payment summary / payout page to see all the incoming & outgoing amounts to determine your payment.   If your label cost that much more than what you charged your buyer, that will account for the biggest hit to your payout, but that isn't a fee.  That is mainly a mistake on your part when you set up your shipping on the listing.  Also other labels may be deducted from this payout depending on your timing.

Re: EBay commission

OK, I just looked at the next sale:

A Matchbox car,

sold for $110 + postage of $18. 50  Total $128.50

You say they keep the $18.50 shipping cost

So, their (approx) 13 % fee on $128.50 (not even including sales tax) is $16.70

plus 11% on promoting the item (11% of $110)                                                        12.10

                                                                                                                              equals $28.80

Take that away from the $110 - leaves  $87.20

Their payout was                                        $108.07 pretty much inline with all my payouts EXCEPT FOR the Cooler

bag to CHILE  and as I mentioned above - the split up of payments do NOT show HOW the $16. 91 payout is arrived at. All other payouts DO!

I am at a loss to explain the $16.91 without additional information. Based on the limited information I had regarding the cooler I cannot get the payout amounts to come anywhere close to the -$16.91 and I have no clue what is in the order details related to the cooler order or this one for that matter.

In this example a couple of things don't jive if it is the following item. Are you saying you sold this through a best offer of $110, the shipping to the buyer was free but you paid $18.50 for the label and you promoted the item at 11%? Or did the buyer PAY you $128.50 total?

Re: EBay commission

Sorry, I just remembered a quicker way to see the fees/percentages.  On your payment summary page, click on the arrow at the far right of your item.   Your details on that sale are all right there.

Re: EBay commission

Rule of thumb is that payouts don't always match what you just sold due to payment processing, etc. People upthread are giving you the actual reason, but if you remember that rule of thumb, it makes it much easier to deal with.

Hell is empty. And all the devils are here.

Re: EBay commission

Wouldn't the FVF for the sale to Chile be based on the item price plus the seller's domestic shipping price of roughly US$13 even if the seller didn't use eIS?  Or have things changed in that regard?

https://www.ebay.ca/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822#section2

The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees. If you offer 1-day or international shipping as well as a cheaper or free option (like domestic shipping), the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer. If you only offer 1-day or international shipping but no cheaper option like domestic shipping, the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the service the buyer chooses.

Not necessarily see up thread. I looked at the cooler listing from a Chilean buyer perspective and the shipping rate shown was $22.80.

What am I supposed to be seeing “up thread”?  These posts full of calculations are getting a bit much for my flu-stricken brain.

The “total fees” of $5.84 don’t make sense for a sale of $46.80.

Re: EBay commission

Good catch @marnotom!

@dbfolks166mt

Sellers do not pay fvf on the amount a shipping an international buyer pays even when the seller ships direct.  They pay fvf on their lowest domestic shipping cost as shown by marnotom’s link.  He gave a .ca link but the information is the same on .com.  You can find it under final value fees - Exceptions

Thank you for the catch and correction. It has been YEARS since I directly shipped international so I had not remembered or been aware of that exception.

Your correct $5.84 is not correct but that information is also up thread in detail but for rehash based on the information provided. The FVF's would have been

($46.80 * ( 13.25% + 1.65%)) + $.30 = $7.27 or 15.5%

Correction to the above based on the post by pjcdn2005  this makes the numbers a bit closer.

The FVF's would have been

($37.00 * ( 13.25% + 1.65%)) + $.30 = $5.81 or 15.7%
