The news headline for 10/03/2018 EBay accuses Amazon of trying to 'illegally poach' its sellers.
Amazon does not need to "poach" any sellers from eBay. Wenig has crashed this company in to an ice burg and the stock prices are finally showing the results of his leadership and continuous updates to hide the issues on their site. I have been on eBay since Sep. 1999 selling. From 2008-15 I was making $135K per year with less than 500 items listed for sale. In Aug. 2016 I was on par to make $150K going in to the holiday season. Anyone in business knows that the holidays mean $$$. From Aug 2016 to present day my sales IMIDIATELY dropped to $70K EXACTLY per year and have not changed. There may be up's and downs but you don't lose $75K a year in sales over night unless there is an outside force causing it. The outside force would be eBay THROTTLING and LIMITING the sales of US based sellers. I countered this throttling by increasing my inventory. I now have over 1000 items listed for sale. That is MORE THAN DOUBLE THE INVENTORY, Result...My sales are now below $70K per year! When contacting CS at eBay they LIE and say there are NO LIMITS on my account. REALLY? In closing, there is no reason for Amazon to poach any sellers from eBay. Quite frankly, eBay is shoving sellers out the door to make room for all the Chinese based sellers and their lead based, cheap plastic, sub-par, flea market products! eBay has fallen so far that this once household name has barely any relevance in the online sale community. Trust me I know. I am presently in a 38hr blackout with no sales...again I have 1000+ items in my PAID FOR PREMIUM STORE. I pay for a service that eBay is not only failing to provide but they encourage growth and then secretly limit your companies ability to grow! eBay FIRE WENIG! Reboot your site to a time before Cassini, do away with Cassini and get rid of 95% of your un-needed updates that broke your once working site. IMO!

Yes....Heaven-for-bid, the ebay suits should have a delinquent light-bulb going off moment...and [finally] realize ebay sellers are leaving, on their OWN accord.

Nope... ebay will never believe anything they do is causing sellers to leave. It HAS to be someone else's fault. At ebay, EVERYTHING is someone else's fault. Sellers, Amazon, Wal-Mart... anybody other than their own polisies that hurt sellers, buyers, and business in general.
Ebay is like the child sitting there with chocolate frosting all over their face while denying that they ate the cake.

Just read the article and was going to post, but then saw the OP had already posted. This is the funniest and most ridiculous article I have ever read. People go to Amazon, because they have had it with eBay. Amazon doesn't need to poach anything. It seems eBay will do anything and say anything to muddy the waters, so shareholders don't see it is a failing platform with a corrupt CEO and upper management. eBay is losing sellers galore and many don't choose to even sign up with Amazon, but decide to just leave online platforms as a whole after being burned by eBay. I am one of those sellers, who recently left store subscription for a real job at the USPS. Futhermore, eBay has picked a fight with Paypal by putting sellers in the crossfire with Paypal with their loan agreement. Personally, eBay has just become so despicable there is no way in good conscience for me to sell or buy here. What is eBay going to do, force Amazon to give back sellers, who don't want to sell on eBay after being burned by eBay. It is a shame that many people do not care how this is going down, but maybe they just want to bleed it dry and jump ship, before the Titanic goes down. Me for one, I am not waiting and my conscious is clear.......it has nothing to do with Amazon, the downfall of eBay is eBay.

Well this may open a pandoras box of sorts... if eBay is accusing Amazon of this, what is going to happen when Amazon starts accusing eBay of stealing their site design, catalog design, and features? EBay has become much more Amazon-like in the last year...

This is a very good point. The timing of this right before they report 3rd quarter earnings makes one wonder if it is to pre-justify the lower numbers. It's someone else's fault, lol.

I wonder if ebay will use this as an excuse to shut down member to member communication completely. All communication through ebay only.

After announcing that they plan to drive away the 5% of sellers who are smalltime us based hobbyists. I mean what did management expect would happen?

I don't see how that would have any effect, as anyone can create a throwaway eBay account in order to get full member access. Note that the overnight discussion group spammers that have been infesting the boards here recently are each creating their own throwaway eBay account in order to post their ad.

I read the article this morning. I found it rather ironic in that ebay says that the BUYERS are their customers, and that sellers can be replaced. We have been told for years that it is no big deal to ebay if they lose a seller. After all there are thousands ready to take their place. So what, now ebay is upset? Amazon is not the only place ebay sellers moved. Many simply got a divrorce from the abusive "partner".

It was EBAY that removed the "report this message" from the ebay messaging system for inappropriate communications. You can't even report the scammer messages that say "send me your PayPal email address" or "change the shipping address because I am taking care of my sick father in another state". much less anything else.
Amazon does not have to "poach" sellers no more than etsy, posh, Mecari. Facebook, or any other venue. All these other places have willing volunteers.

Spin, spin, spin, Gotta spin it before the bad news hits. Blame Amazon for some unseen and unknown conspiracy to steal sellers.
Ebay probably never would admit that it's good business to steal your competitors source of income.
Blaming Walmart didn't save K-Mart, Toys R us or Sears.

that the growth has stopped, and might be going the other way.
I suspected that long ago. We have not heard on these boards in a very long time that "ebay is the only place that has buyer traffic" or "ebay is the best place to sell the unique and unusual". It has been replaced with "ebay is the best place to get items for free" and sellers are not going for it since the FREE comes out of their pocket.
I suppose it is a last ditch effort to monetize the fraudulent buyer/phony snad claims by holding sellers accountable for same with the new metrics that reward the said seller with a 40% increase in fees.

Ebay need only look in the mirror to see the reason for sellers leaving ... no “site that must not be named” involved at all.
