What is ebay going to do about this fiasco. It's unbelievable how sales just dropped off overnight a few weeks ago, and they have not gotten any better. I've been very successful here on ebay over the years, always have been one to just sit back and accept the changes, but it's very clear that everything is broken with this site. Too many issues to even start naming them, but my biggest one is that of my close to 1500 listings, in a 24 hour period, by their chart, and the views my listings are getting, i'm averaging 300 views a day on all my listings, that means that only 1/5 of my listings are even being looked at each day which is just pathetic. It's never been like this, and sales are just horrible. This is clearly an ebay problem, And not some **bleep** economy related issue. This has never happened in 20 years for me on here, and i've never been one to come here and complain at all, but something has to be done.

LMAO. We can always expect espectacular moves like that from eByebye.
and that's not totally true, yeah Cassini is ebay's, but they use Google now especially with PLS and PLA's that is how everyone is finding their items through Google + ebay doesn't have to do anything you can usually get your items to come up on Google promoted or not, just may be down the page some or be on their shopping page either on the scroll bar at top or via the "show more" (or all, can't remember what it says) page(s). Anyways Cassini is ebay's search on their site, it's what their algorithm (at least was) called

If you don't like something or changes you have 3 choices - 1.) accept it for what it is 2.) work CONSTRUCTIVELY to change it - being part of the change is rewarding - used the "Tell Us What You Think" option often 3.) pack up your bags and leave. Life is real simple. Oh I hung up my eBay selling spurs in Oct. 2021 for spend more time with our almost 4 year old grandson. No I never agreed with eBay on all their changes/programs, policy but I did make changes so those changes would benefit me.
Learned long ago changes will happen, some you will not like and others you and some maybe ice cold or tepid about. Fact in ones best efforts you will only please 80% of your audience - see we are all individuals with a whole lot of different experiences - this all starts the day you were born.

@sakic92710 It depends. I think you said you got restricted from selling awhile back do to shipping issues. Yes, bad sellers can have items removed. Ebay warns those sellers of such a thing. So yes, if you become a bad seller Ebay may remove your listings. With that said they will never just randomly hide your listings if you are up to par within Ebays standards.

@siamjane8 wrote:Why does it offend you so much to think that something could be wrong at ebay.
Why does it offend YOU to think that if your sales are down, it might just simply be that nobody wants to buy your stuff? Why do you take offense to that? It's nothing to be ashamed of. It happens. It even happens to everyone. It happens to me. Why does it have to be somebody's fault? Sales go up. Sales go down. That's normal in retail and online sales.
@siamjane8 wrote:When i see thousands of post all stating the same concern- i cant dismiss it as everyone is wrong- its just not logical or scientific.
As others have said in this post, sellers have been coming here since these boards were created complaining about slow sales. Your complaint is not new. You can find at least one post every day going back YEARS complaining about slow sales. "What's going on?" "Ebay is broke." "Ever since they did this." "Ever since they did that." Has ebay been broken that long? Were you on the boards when we switch to GTC or managed payments? Almost every post complained about how GTC or managed payments was killing their sales. Thousands of posts. Thousands of complaints. Were all they wrong? Yes.
I see you're one to not just let things go and agree to disagree. I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change my mind, so why bother? Let's just enjoy the Sunday. Go grill some steaks. That's what I would do if I wasn't temporarily bed ridden. I'm going back to bed.

@johnrj1226 wrote:Dude use fewer key words to search. eBay moved away from Google as their primary search engine and switched to Cassini in 2013. It was a fiasco sellers had to revise their listing headline at least 3 different times to get their listing to show up. But one key requirement was to use few words - just the key words and ditch the characters - not the whole Gettysburg address. Just used these words and found a bunch of listings including your lengthy 12 word & 7 number/characters search , yes there were some specifically non related items but they had the words "Spin Master" in it but it happens on Amazon too - guess they use Google (DKN).
Netflix Party Game Trending Now by Spin Master
In fewer words The Stones had a 1969 hit song titled that might be fitting - "You Can't Always Get What You Want" Yep life is not fair.
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=you+can%27t+always+get+what+you+want
Previous to Cassini eBay used a search engine called Voyager which they had developed in about 2002 (IIRC).
Unfortunately, Google and eBay have not always played well together.
Your observations on search terms, though, is right on - search is moving toward a lexical model rather than just strings of keywords, i.e., searching for an item describing it as one would in common speech.

There are for sure weird search results on occasion. I posted one with screen shots a few weeks ago. HOWEVER, some of the posts here show that people don't understand that the search is working the way it's supposed to in many cases.
-Netflix board game - I see 145 results. With a quick glance (I didn't look at every single result), they all seem to have the 3 keywords Netflix, board & game in the title (and/or IS's). That is working exactly as designed. Whether or not it's finding the exact board game that user wanted to see, IDK, but it IS working how it's supposed to.
-Searching for Tommy Bahama Shorts finds Short sleeve TB shirts. Yup. Again, working as intended. eBay's search equates plurals with singulars, which in general is a good thing for sellers though there may be specific instances where that does more harm than good.
*** Though I just searched & wonder if this changed b/c I made it to page 15 (of 9600 results) & all I see is shorts.
-Google search brings up X, why doesn't eBay's? B/C it's a different search engine created by a different company & it works differently. All search engines do not work the same way.
That's just the ones I remember seeing off the top of my head. These have worked this way since Cassini was first implemented & are working as designed. I get they may not be working the way you or I would design it, but they are working as intended. That doesn't mean there aren't problem results (I just found one) but it means many users may not know the difference between working as intended & problem results.

@annadryl wrote:I'm pretty sure that their search function is badly broken in some areas. A recent thread pointed out that a search for a specific car part or something brought up pages and pages of vintage smut. We all tried it, and... yikes! No idea how that could even happen.
Agreed! I noticed that my "Avg click-through rate" was severely dropped, i think my items showing up in search engine result to buyers whom not seeking for my products because malfunction in search engine.

@goldrushfinds wrote:my favorite Ebay search failings is when I am trying to sell a pair of shorts. For instance, if you search Mens Tommy Bahama Shorts, it will give you many listings for short sleeve shirts.
@goldrushfinds I researched the problem you gave and it is inaccurate. I typed Tommy Bahama mens shorts. The first page of 60 results was ALL Tommy Bahama mens shorts.

@siamjane8 You have to learn how to search. A typical seller will NEVER list an item as you describe. Search like a normal buyer would search (1969 Mercury Cycle trim). You will be amazed. Make sure for now on ALWAYS put what you are selling into the title of the item. Good Luck.

You're absolutely on the money. Though I'm hardly a big seller, I try to keep around 100 quality items (mainly old books and music t-shirts) on sale at all times. I have been selling on eBay since 1999 and I've never come close to having sales fall off a cliff the way they did two-three months ago. Perhaps the company is trying to "force" people to use their so-called promotional "service"? Why would I consider paying $2-3 to "promote" a book that I have listed for $10-15? I would think (I guess incorrectly) that the very best business model would be to make it as easy as possible for EVERYONE to sell his or her merchandise since it seems reasonable to believe the more people sell the more money eBay makes on fees. Evidently someone has a better idea, though I'm darned if I understand what exactly that idea is. I have a number of items now that literally NO ONE ever looks at no matter how long I have them on sale. It's perplexing to say the least.
