EBAY FEES FOR BOOKS

I'm new here for the most part selling books...  I want to be sure I understand the process.  So I know there's fees.  If an item does NOT sell in the first 30 days is there a fee for that 30 days?  I think not.  If I let it automatically relist is there a fee for that?  Is there more of a fee if it sells during the second 30 days than the first?  Am I charged if I take it off the list (unlist it)?

Re: EBAY FEES FOR BOOKS

No, eBay's fees have no relation to the length of time a listing is active, or if an item sells sooner or later after it was first listed.

Basically, the fees are a percentage of the total amount your buyer pays:  the cost of the item itself, plus postage and sales tax.  There may be other fees, such as a fee you, the seller, will pay for a Promoted Listing, or if you put a reserve price on an auction, or use upgrades in your listings, like a subtitle.

You will find eBay's complete policies on sellers' fees in the User Agreement.  There's a link to it at the bottom of this page.  It's all spelled out in Item 5, Fees and Taxes.

Come back and read these community boards a couple times a week.   I really credit them for teaching me almost everything I know about eBay.

Good luck!

Re: EBAY FEES FOR BOOKS

Are you talking about final value fees? You only incur those fees when the item sells.

If you are speaking about Final Value Fees on a fixed price item, then no - they only apply when the item sells.

If you are speaking about Insertion Fees, then probably not - you are given 250 free insertions each month.

If you list at fixed price on August 15, that uses one of your August free insertions and you will have 249 August insertions left. If the item does not sell by September 15, the listing will renew and will use one of your September free insertions. So as long as you have not used up all 250 of your September free insertions before the listing renews, then there will be no insertion fees. (Insertion fees are somewhere around 35 cents).

Is there more of a fee if it sells during the second 30 days than the first?

No, Final Value Fees are the same no matter if it sells the first time or after it has renewed.

Am I charged if I take it off the list (unlist it)?

You are only charged a fee for ending a listing if it is an auction listing that already has bids on it and you choose to end the listing rather than sell it.

This was so helpful. Thank you.  I did read those and thought I understood though not completely and was reading other things online and started doubting my understanding.  Just stumbled on community and I think I'll take your advice!  Thank you so much!
