Ebay is getting greedier and greedier! Not only do they now want the Paypal percentage( after they have sold the company of course) which is little pennies less than paypal was- they are now charging .30 per transaction on top of their outrageous final value fees. They discount shipping which is crazy high, hurting sellers -- but not much considering they take a percentage of that too - I am sure they get a better discount from these shippers and keep the rest on the back end.
They want more buyers and are throwing sellers under the bus. There are better venues out there. This and all else will be ebay's eventual downfall. Corporate Greed!!!

So did PayPal.

"There are better venues out there." ............ I've sold on eBay for 24 years , on the side . I've sold no where else . Can you give a suggestion as to a better venue to sell/resell which approximates the eBay experience ? .. Thanks for your thread

Not only do they now want the Paypal percentage
Paypal's % is 2.9% and is charged on sales tax too + shipping. Ebay's transaction fee is 2.35%.
they are now charging .30 per transaction

Their fee is very small considering consignment shops charge at least double. You also get a huge amount more exposure.
They discount shipping which is crazy high, hurting sellers
This statement makes no sense. They have discounted rates that are significantly less than the retail rates you get if you were to walk into a local USPS/FedEx/UPS Store.
considering they take a percentage of that too
Ebay only charges a fee based on the cheapest shipping option you offer to a buyer. If you offer $10 priority mail and $40 overnight shipping and the buyer picks overnight shipping, you only pay fee on $10 worth of shipping, not $40. This is to combat sellers listing an item for $1 with $99 shipping. Blame bad sellers abusing loopholes.
There are better venues out there.
I'd like to know these venues.

This is true under PayPal, but I believe it is no longer true under Managed Payments.

I don't offer more than one shipping option so I can't say with certainty but I do know that when you have an international sale eBay still charges fees based on the Domestic shipping charge in the listing and not the (usually) much higher International rate actually charged.

I believe that's only true if you have an international sale, where they only charge you the fee on the domestic rate. I'd like to see proof that it applies to domestic sales, if anyone has it.

Right, the old "eBay can negotiate a better shipping rate" myth.
eBay has absolutely no leverage with the shipping companies. Amazon gets a big discount because they do a lot of the work themselves (sorting, delivering right to the destination sorting facility, etc.). It should be obvious to anyone who has a clue about what eBay does that eBay has nothing to offer the shippers that will save them any money.

We can't send people off to other sites, but a little research on google will yield all the information for other sites you'll ever want to know.

And the sales just keep on coming! If you have an issue with shipping costs, write a letter to the US Postal Service's suggestion box, the true crooks, and it will go unread, from which each January they increase rates and lose more billions.

I don’t think eBay is in danger of failing, but over the years have seen many forum posts predicting its demise. Yet it remains.

That is true under the PayPal fee structure. It says "the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer":
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=5203
Bu the fee page for Managed Payments says it will be calculated on the total payment, and makes no mention of a different calculation for international payments. It simply says it will be calculated based on what the buyer pays:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

I also saw that the language changed but I have audited several International orders, initially the fee did not add up but when I factored in the reduced domestic shipping they did.

Before posting please take the time to investigate the actual numbers.
If you are so hurt over managed payments there are other venues to go to, but wait, they charge the same or even more the eBay!!
