I'm trying to sell my late daughter's bespoke 9-string touchstyle guitar but E-Bay won't let me list it as a guitar. It comes up with a message: 'It looks like you're listing an accessory or other item in a category meant for guitars. Please go back and find a category that more closely matches your item such as Musical Instruments & Gear > Guitars & Basses > Parts & Accessories. "
The guitar comes with a gig-bag and support blocks but the main item is the nine-string guitar.
Any suggestions on how to get round this obstacle?

Is there another one listed? Check what category they are using.......and/or the verbiage of the title, versus what you used..........

Hi, Sorry you are having issues. I know how frustrating it can be. I do have a suggestion for you.
Are you writing your title the way you wrote it here - Nine String Guitar? Try Guitar - Nine Strings. I do not know if it will work. The bots seem to only recognize the first words. I think they are only getting to strings and think that you are trying to sell guitar strings.
There really is a method to my madness. Just my two cents. I hope it helps.

(Hehehe they moved the edit button to the top, now I can never find it)

I just did a search and came up with quite a few 9 string guitars listed on Ebay.
The Sellers started off with the "brand name" of the guitar, then "guitar", then followed by 9 string like Penny suggested.
I would try that and see if it works out for you.
Good luck and Happy Sales.

You should just list it as a guitar. In the description you could say that it has 9 strings as the last thing mentioned

Maybe the problem is mentioning the gig bag? Try taking out any reference to the bag, and see if the listing goes through. Potential buyers will see it in the listing images.

Copy the title to a similar guitar already listed almost exactly. The guitar category has (or had) much lower final value fees than other categories and thus the robots are very vigilant in keeping out everything that isn't a guitar.

We would need to see the "exact" title you had at the time Ebay would not let you list it.

My condolences. Goodluck.

Find a similar one listed, and do a sell now. It will copy the basic stuff, category, IS, etc. Save it as a draft. Then go in and edit the listing details where you need to for the one you want to sell.

What category are the competitors using for similar items or the exact same item?

@marchoftheblackqueen appears to have been able to resolve the issue.
The guitar is now listed, and it appears that rearranging the words in the title may have made the difference.
