Dumb question- cant figure out how to send messages in new messenger

I am trying to send a message to my buyer but it will NOT let me type anything. What am I doing wrong?? I have not sent any messages since the new messenger rolled out.

Type in the area that says "send message" when finished typing up your message hit the airplane icon.

In the lower right is a link to provide eBay with Feedback on the new message page ... of course it is hard to see LOL, make sure you use that to voice your displeasure with the new message system.

LOL!  I will because I used to use the Sort feature on the various columns ... like member ID, date, etc.

The member IDs, when they were in a column and space all to their own, were easier to pick out, now one's eyes are drawn to the kindergarten colored letter balloons first and then you have to look for the IDs and visually jump down over two lines of text to the next message.  But that's just me ... all new members will just keep asking how to send a message like we have seen here on a regular basis and they will just learn to accept the poor layout programming ... but maybe it looks GREAT on a mobile device?!?  I wouldn't know, I don't use one for eBay ...

The "empty" space will be filled up if you have a back and forth "conversation".

The new format takes a bit of getting used to especially if you have no experience with texting on smartphones. Once you get over that you will probably find that it is superior to the old system.

I just had the exact thing happened most of today and it cleared itself up. I even posted a thread asking like you are. Apparently it was a server problem.

I started a thread on this a few weeks back too! I HATE the new format. It's very confusing and I have problems scrolling up to see any message that is in the que. It's not a dumb question!

One of the issues with the new message system that does not seem to have been fixed, concerns checking the background of the individual asking the question.

With the old method, I could check the questioner's eBay page, looking for feedback hints, as well as the source country of the questioner.

The new system does not permit either, which makes me more cautious regarding potential buyers.

Oh, well -- something else for eBay to ignore.

Click on the Sender's eBay ID at the very top of the message preview pane.  It will lead to their Feedback history on messages on non-transactions.

The only thing I like about the new flow is the text type message format but I still don't know if that flow would continue from the same member on different transactions or questions on different listings.  In other words, is a message streams ONLY for one transaction or ONE listing or will they mix them???

I've already documented quite a few deficiencies and things I don't like on this new flow and I have used the link in the lower right hand corner more than once to voice my displeasure ...

Thanks -- that works!  I also discovered that, if I click on the eBay order number, it will take me to the order page, and from there I can click on the buyer's name and/or eBay ID, which will then take me eventually to their eBay page.

Seems to be like driving the long way home, ya know?  Too many additional clicks to arrive at the same result.

Yep @mr_lincoln steered you right. This question is popping up more frequently these days. In my opinion the other person's ID gets kind of hidden and they should put the profile pic to the left of the ID to make it stand out more. Make it more obvious you can click on it. I also think they should put buyer location just below the ID - sure would help answer shipping questions if I can see the buyer is in Australia vs Louisiana vs Oregon right there in the message flow.

As for order #, eBay just added that today. Saw it earlier and thought it was great - that wasn't there yesterday.

I can answer that for you. Same member contacts you through different item numbers or different transactions and it creates different message threads.

Edit to add: The one thing I don't know yet, since the order # info was added just today, is if the buyer purchases an item, contacts you for whatever reason, then next month they buy more of the same item / listing and contact you again through the new transaction - not sure if that will create a different message thread or continue on the same one, overwriting that new order # feature with the buyer's new order number. If you're dying to know I can let you know when I see it in action, and if not I'll just take note when I see it and file the info away in my already too-full eBay Mind Palace. 😆
