Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

Is anybody else seeing a huge drop in sales over the last week or so?  I have not changed what I'm doing, but I am barely selling anything now.  Is this temporary?  What is going on with eBay?  I don't think Dr. Suess is the only thing they've changed.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

I think it's the Dr. Seuss book burning. People are seriously **bleep** about this. Everywhere I look on the interweb toobz people are saying they won't buy on ebay anymore and I have had a HUGE drop in traffic today. Right now I'm at about 10% of what I would normally sell on any given Friday. They are nuts for doing this and pissing off so many people with this silly and hypocritical virtue signaling.

Sort of the nature of the beast.  I'm in a bit of a slump too.

I don't belive Dr Suess has anything to do with.

Just a quiet moment  in sales.

Here is to a better weekend  for us all,

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

@eauclairepowersports   The drop in sales that I've seen started at the beginning of February.  I compare each month with ALL the previous yearly months.  After steady growth from 2015 to 2019 Covid hit and changed a lot of things.  Sales on the entire year were down.  Then January I had my best January in 6 years.  Then Feb hit and it was DOWN 53.5% over last year which was the best Feb in 5 years and down 20.3% compared to Feb 2019.  It is very disappointing to say the least.  And yes, when Feb hit it was like someone flipped a switch and sales just fell off pace in short order.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

People got the stimulus payments at the beginning of January.    A new stimulus is coming soon.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

Dr Seuss? I seriously doubt it - the entire thing is a tempest in a teapot IMHO, particularly compared to the ongoing censorship this country has always engaged in.

There are a lot of fluctuations in sales and this has always been kind of a draggy time of year for me.  Tail end of winter (in most of the country lol - we're slated to be in the midst for another few months), spring/summer not quite here yet.  It's important to take the long view.

@eauclairepowersports Sorry to hear your sale are down. Mine are doing fine so far this month. I believe it's more about what a person is selling regarding the interest levels but maybe with the next stimulus check your sales will increase. Best of luck to you....

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

Yep, I was having the best 2 months of my 20 years than all of a sudden someone dropped anchor. I notice my promotional numbers are about half of just 1 week ago. I surmise eBay is cutting back on the number of promos to save money for some reason. Buyers may not be happy for several reasons: #1. Managed Payment, #2. USPS delivery problems 3. Censorship, #4. Overall change that eBay just has to mess with - change normally always creates lost productivity and initial negativity. I also believe the economy, ie people spending is beginning to pullback for various reasons - inflation(price of gas going up, overall pessimism on the economic conditions with talks of inflation, etc. etc.) The new Administration promised the sun and sky and has delivered very little - just my opinion. All sellers can do is continue to hope this is just another one of those dry periods that will pass. Professionally, I think something is going to hit the fan soon. Good luck!

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

Buyers don't even know if sellers are using managed payments or not - it's the same process.   As for the so-called "Censorship" - for this little tempest in a teapot you'd better contact the Dr Seuss Foundation - they are the ones decided what to do with THEIR OWN PROPERTY.  As for the 'sun and sky' - all I see around me is optimism and a feeling as if we're emerging from a very dark tunnel.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

I average 500-800 a week on here nd have made 40 in the last 4 days. It always seems to happen right at the e bay update. Same thing happened at the fall seller update as well for me.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

I’m not sure it’s so much the buyers not liking managed payments, but the formers sellers that haven’t opted into managed payments that are no longer feeding their eBay earnings back into eBay as buyers. I can’t imagine it’s a hugely dramatic drop off, but it’s a drop off nonetheless.

Re: Dramatic and Sudden Drop in Sales

My sales have slowed too.  For the most part, with a couple of exceptions, I've only been selling my cheaper items.  I think its due the prospect of the country opening up in the near future and herd immunity projected for the summer, people are spending money or saving money for upcoming trips.
