Done with eBay

I am in total agreement with living without EBay but AMAZON is the same **bleep**. They stand behind their buyers (who are scam artists and so forth) and the seller is considered the **bleep**donating our lost money into making their company larger. Today I ended my experience also. I sold a lot of 16 books mostly NEW but advertised as used, took pictures of everyone one as a few had some turned up corners. Buyer received them telling me they wanted a refund as the books were horrible and smelled and had water damage (which they didn't) as they were wrapped in plastic. Their pictures they sent to eBay did not match any of the pictures listed on the auction page. eBay refunded the money even though I disagreed as their pictures were profiles of random books that you couldn't see the covers with crinkled pages.
So I called eBay today as I THEY arrived damaged and said I wanted to complain about this as they did not look like my books and further they gave him a first class label for 10 lbs of media mail. The person at EBay said I had to refund the money before I could dispute it so I did. He then said he would email me forms to sign disputing the Transaction. He then transferred me to the disputes dept. I then got transferred to PayPal who told me they had nothing to do with this and that now the case was closed because I refunded the money.
very angry and **bleep** at this point, I called eBay back and they said the same thing. CASE CLOSED BECAUSE I REFUNDED THE MONEY and never got any dispute forms via email. Do they think we are all STUPID AS OBVIOUSLY WE FALL INTO THEIR TRAP OF BELIEVING THEM BECAUSE THEY WORK AT EBAY. I said "you just lied to me". And they said "so now you are disputing and we r still denying it". AND WHY DO THEY ALL SOUND ALIKE, SAME ACCENT.
IM DONE!! The buyer was ignorant because I asked him to send me pictures of the water damaged box, and he said he will just wait for eBay to refund him(as he already knew they would) and told me to f.....off 3 different times. Again EBay doesn't acknowledge any of the complaints u give them. Do they even look. Im going to get rid of anything else i have to sell . I want to see eBay go out of business.

One thing I never understood about people who are "leaving eBay" is why do they come here to tell us about it? I would think leaving means you are so disgusted that you wouldn't even want to post on their boards you would just log out of your account or accounts and never visit the website again silly me I guess.

Quite honestly, I think that quite often the folks that leave/are leaving post here, not because they are disgusted with the other ebay user, as much as being disgusted with 'ebay', the management, the policies or some thing to do with the company.

Sharing with the other 'noise' may be a note of forewarning.  Some of us who are 'noise' don't mind.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

all I can say is if I don't like a website or it's upper management I would just leave and never come back, I wouldn't go whining on a forum on said website about it, I guess I just don't understand the logic behind it, do they hope their posts will cost the company extra money or something as in costing a company money is their revenge?

There are probably as many different ways to handle a situation or respond to an incident as there are people.

You would react one way, someone else would react another, I would react still another.

Such is life.

I have gone through a similar situation this week as the gentelman did with the buyer and his books.  I sold a scamming buyer a Phantom 3 Professional Drone that was like new just had the box opened.  The next thing I knew was the buyer was having a fit to return the item.  Since he couldn't find anything wrong with it he cried that it was the wrong model number.  Well I just did some checking with Dji the manufacturer.  They said there was only one Phantom 3 Professional and that was the one I had and "sold" to this guy. The buyer is obviously a liar.  I contacted Ebay customer support and was given the exact same treatment as the poor seller and his books.  Ebay then told me that the buyer could 'acutally' keep the item and back charge my paypal acct.  then he would have his money back and be able to keep the $600 drone too.  I went ahead with the return... Ebay made me pay the return shipping... hard to believe. When I got the drone back it had been flown and had mud on all four propellers and some sort of  a reddish berry stain on it as if it were crashed into a bush with red berries.  The buyer then threw the item into a flimsy box with "gaping holes" and a few short pieces of duct tape holding the entire thing together and shiped it back by regular mail.  Ebay dose not mind for their sellers to receive very 'nasty' treatment.  They condone it.  The buyers are Ebay's bread and butter they are becomming more and more aware of the soft, easy treatment they get from Ebay.  This treatment has created a nasty bunch of scammers who abuse the system and to be frankly honest Ebay dose not care one bit.  In most cases I don't think it is even legal for any party to have control over the merchandise and the money paid (both at the same time) then dictate the full outcome or maybe just keep both. Not legal most places .... Well it's legal on Ebay... Good luck if you are a seller...

@67tri_power  Wow.  What an outrageous story.  I am sorry this appened to you and you are out the $100.  Not fair at all.  And you can't even leave this scammer feedback to boot.

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

I know sometimes it hurts an honest seller, but, as a buyer I depend on EBay's policies to back me up if something goes wrong. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often. If I couldn't count on EBay's policies, I wouldn't buy here at all.

Basically to see how many other people this has happened to. And to make other sellers aware (if they aren't already) of how corrupt and shady EBAY is. To have their employers lie is awful. I really want someone to tell me if this is legal. There is no warning on the eBay site stating SELL AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! You may or may not make profit. In fact, u may lose money. I want to share this with as many other decent sellers as I possibly can.

Zoe, I looked at your listing and feedback from your buyer, which states the books had flaws that were apparently a surprise to them. Your listing says the books are in "Like new" condition and then describes what that means, "Cover has no visible wear, and the dust jacket (if applicable) is included for hard covers. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining/highlighting of text or writing in the margins. May be very minimal identifying marks on the inside cover. Very minimal wear and tear. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections." In your post you wrote "...a few had some turned up corners" but you did not disclose that in your listing. You gave a list of titles with no discussion of any flaws at all. This alone leaves you vulnerable for a Not As Described case. As you have no returns, this would leave a buyer with few choices to achieve satisfaction.

I am not taking sides here or disputing the honesty of your buyer. It sounds like you were put through the ringer. Instead i see some weaknesses in the listing that could work against you in any case. The pictures show only a frontal view of some of the titles. Only a single one shows a crease in the cover. Had the photographs honed in on the creased pages or turned corners you mentioned in your post, and any other evidence of use and a detailed description of handling marks, then picky buyers would pass you by. It is the absence of information that left you open for SNAD. Ebay is a buyer-centric platform. It is up to each seller to protect themselves from the risks of online selling. I am very sorry this experience was so bad as to drive you off altogether. Wish you much success in your next venue.

We had several BACK and forth conversations about the books that I described in full. None of the books had what he mentioned but came back with all the defects he mentioned. I learned a valuable lesson and I plan on being more particular about who is bidding on on my stuff.

@zoe161  Bring this up on the Weekly Chat ... if what you describe happened with the eBay & PayPal calls and beingtold to Refund then not being able to do anything BECAUSE you refunded at their advice sounds very fishy ...

That's exactly what happened.  I was told I could not appeal unless I REFUNDED first.  So I did while I was still on the phone with them.  Then after I was transferred "to the appeals dept" which was PayPal, (who told me the could not help, that it was an eBay issue). I then called eBay back.  They said I could not appeal as I REFUNDED the money.  I flipped out telling them that's what the previous rep told me.  She said ok, so now your appeal is denied.  So I asked her if EBAY employees went thru a training class as they just outright LIED TO ME!!  THEY DO NOT CARE!! THEY ARE MAKING MONEY AND SELLERS ARE LOSING THEIR SHIRTS.

Quick question ... is this an ecommerce website or a gambling website?

Hmmmm...let's see now because this a real head scratcher...I know:

It's totally a gambling site masquerading as an ecommerce site.

what did I win?

That is why you should bring it up on the Weekly Chat ... keep it simple but stress that you took the reps advice and that is what caused you NOT to be able process the appeal.  Are they trained to do this so the Buyer wins?
