Does the *groveling for a sale* thing work for you?

And by that I mean, sending a watcher of ones listing, a lesser price offer; And to be sure, call it what you will, but in my opinion, that IS, groveling.... and I don't think it has ever panned out for me. I think that 80% (if not more) of my watchers, are chronic watchers, for various reasons.  And by the same token, as a warcher, I don't think I've ever accepted a seller's offer)  So back to my  original question, how many times has sending a watcher an offer, resulted in a sale for you?

"There's also a last but very important and basic fact: A seller doesn't have to send offers, ever, if they don't want to."

Exactly. Just because a seller can send offers, doesn't mean he should. By the same token, of course, just because a seller can send offers, doesn't mean he shouldn't. Each seller makes a choice.

So nice to see a little divertis moi here, instead of the ubiquitous, vapid, snarky threads. There are those who take life (and themselves) far too seriously..... You Know Who You Are . 😏  Who was it who said "Life is too  mysterious, don't take it so serious"   Not exactly proper English, yet still valid.

as a buyer, I don't like it.  I wasn't watching your listing because I wanted to buy it so stop offering it cheaper.

You can turn those notifications off in your buyer preferences.

Yes...sends a message to me from the seller that YES, it is undesirable!

Well then I don't want it either....

A friend invited me to join his facebook antique sellers group.  I thought, why not, at least, give it a try.  Within 20 minutes I'm getting messages from someone I've avoided and been out-of-touch with for 25 years.  That was the beginning and end of 'social media' for me.

And so, we each poke fun in our own way. Wink.  Happy-smile.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

As a buyer, it works for me.  I found an item.  There were several on eBay.  The cheapest one was from a long time seller with great feedback.  I felt that even though it was the cheapest, it was still a little overpriced.

I put it on my watch list, not to buy, necessarily, but just to remember the item and to check periodically to see if there were any listed for cheaper.  Two days later,   I get a message that the buyer sent me an offer for less.  The offer was almost exactly what I thought the item was worth.  So I bought it.

Seller and I are both happy.

Don't overthink this.  Seriously - this is just a simple selling technique, that's all.

I find this thinking really strange.  I guess because I don't prefer to pay full price if I can get something for less.   Is this how you feel about stores that run sales?

I assume that's a typo, and you meant exceptional service?

General Reply.

I love getting the offers! I accepted one about an hour ago for 1.00 off a bracelet I'd been watching. Having been a sales and Flea and thrift store addict all my life this new feature is right up my alley. Buying something for 'less' is always a good thing, never a turn off.

I used to have a BF years ago who would never buy anything on sale. I could not understand that way of thinking.

Right, I understand that , if someone watching the offer can be sent. What I was trying to say is, for example if I have lets say 115 items that are being watched, ebay only shows two items i can send offers on that are being watched out of the 115 that are being watched. What criteria does ebay use to pick the items that sellers can send offers on out of the items that are being watched? Is that a little more clear?
