Does promoting your items actually help?

I would like to know if promoting your items is worth the fee.

Does it actually help you sell your item faster?

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

I meant a 'potential' problem- for you and you alone. I personally don't care and if you are happy paying the difference, no issues here.

I was just pointing out that the $10 wood with $5 shipping is going to really cost you about $10 to ship; eating into your $10 selling price by 50%. Tack on ebay fees and you'd get about $3 on that $10 sale. Just sayin....

I've always wondered why eBay sellers are now willing to pay for something that used to be free.

@bimm_corp

I do not know why ebay makes you pay.

But I have just promoted all my listings at 1.8% and I will see if it changes anything.

I will send you the stats after a few days.

There are 20 million sellers here and 1.5 billion items.

I have no doubt that for each one, promoting might be:

  • fantastic
  • good
  • okay
  • makes no difference
  • fair
  • poor
  • awful

Or something else.

That really should change.

I wish eBay would do that again.

Unfortunately,  it is not going to happen, we are not in 1995-2005 anymore.

Ebay's agenda as just another big corporate who needs to maximize profits today while sacrificing tomorrow, please the shareholders and pay the CEO $34,835,839 (in 2020) is extremely conflicted with the small, medium or even large sellers are relying on Ebay to produce the best amount of sales in 2022.

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

In my case, I think it does. Am in a couple saturated categories and any bump at placement helps. Particularly if it gets me seen on other similar searches too. Probably half my sales are promoted and I do a small amount.

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

I'd be more concerned about the extremely low prices you're charging for shipping. How do you expect to make any money? Yet you're worried about promoted listings that might help you make no money faster?

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

@wrong66

Hello,

I appreciate the concern.

I have been getting many of these messages.

I would really appreciate if people stopped trying to tell me how to run my eBay business.

I am allowed to make whatever shipping price I want and if I want the shipping prices to be $0.03 or $9999 dollars I am pretty sure I can do either.

I charge a fair amount that makes me get a small profit and If I my customers are happy then I am happy.

You've had multiple posts on the board today asking people how to run your business. Get real.

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

I am in a super saturated category & PL's are hugely successful for me, easily doubled to tripled my sales  BUT,  I didn't look to see your category, but I doubt that 1.8% will do anything.  You need to promote at or near the suggested rate to see a difference & you need to promote all or most of your listings.

I played with it at lower rates & with only selected listings & it isn't until I put PL's on everything & for a substantial amount, that it made any difference.  That was about 2 years ago & it made a huge difference in my saturated category.  My sales are easily 4:1 PL's vs organic.

Re: Does promoting your items actually help?

I use the Standard version, choosing only one percent as the fee.

I found my Views increased greatly, but while sales also increased, they were NOT sales on PL items.

I suspect that PL drew in viewers who then looked at my other items and sometimes bought those rather than the item that was advertised by PL.

I sell long tail products : used books, sewing patterns, vintage postcards, postage etc over four different accounts.

I watched this pattern closely from Nov 2019 to March 2020 when the pandemic surge hit sales and everything started selling better. This seems to have returned to normal as of Nov. 2021 and I am keeping records again.

Most months I pay 50c or less for PL sales.
