Does eBay inform BUYERS about the changes in fixed priced listings to "good til cancelled"?

I  wonder what buyers will think of this change? Will they even be told? It is going to be a huge change in how a lot of us do business! So many of my customers wait until an item is about to end to send an offer, or purchase a fixed priced item. I anticipate my stuff sitting on watch lists indefinitely. Ebay needs to make customers aware of these chages in policy, so they can also decide how to shop!

Your item will still end like it did before, it will just get relisted automatically.

Have a great day.

eBay can not even get sellers to read about changes. It would be an impossible task to inform buyers about eBay policy when many will not even read what is in a listing that they are purchasing.

For the late purchasers:  word is that the GTC listings will still show in "ending soonest" when searching. That would give them until day 29 for purchasing from sellers that cancel at that point to avoid a relist. Does not help the "watchers", that for reasons that I fail to understand, would wait until the last day to purchase.

I look at fixed price as a "buy it now" price, and I have no reason to wait until the end of a listing to make a purchase.

GTC still comes up on "ending soonest" sort.  It doesn't come up on "newly listed" except for the first time you actually newly list it.

I didn't know about it until I tried to list something this morning and saw I was forced to list as GTC. Which I declined. I refuse to allow any auto renewing on anything. I'm sure not going to start allowing it here. I called eBay and told them I was not happy and they would be losing my business. They said they sent out emails to warn people about the new auto renewing listings for fixed priced. I never got one. What a cheap skate scam for a few extra profits.

Hi @mos-jax-fl, I recommend you double check your trash folder in eBay Messages. This update was sent on February 26th and it looks like the message was read before it was sent to trash. You can get more details on this update via the message you received and I am happy to provide the direct link here

While we have heard the concerns from our sellers that this change is designed to create more profits for eBay, I can reassure you that that increased profits will occur for eBay due to increased sales for our sellers. By moving to a Good 'Til Cancelled format on our Fixed Price listings, we not only increase the amount of visibility and traffic these listings receive on our platform and via third party search engines, but we also create more time for buyers to commit to a purchase they have been considering. We have found that items that the Good 'Til Cancelled format is related to an increased conversion rate for our sellers and believe that this is change will benefit our Community.

Many sellers have been using Good 'Til Cancelled listings exclusively for quite some time with great success, so we encourage you to give this a try before deciding our marketplace is not the right fit for your business. We know that it can be difficult to navigate an ever changing market, and are here to support you as we adapt to the expectations of the industry.

The 2019 Early Seller Update has also been glowing at the top of my ebay for quite some time now.    I may not like everything I read in the updates, but I sure can't understand why so many sellers don't even read them.

That is so wonderful that the large corporations and businesses use GTC, however, remember back in the early 90's when eBay was for the small individual seller?  Hey, there's some of us left!  You haven't gotten rid of all of us yet!  This is another step however.  GTC does not work for me since I will adjust the price if the item does not sell in hopes to make it more appealing to a buyer.  And I will finally remove an item when it gets to the lowest price I am willing to sell it for.  Also, does this take up my free listings each month?  If I have used them all, am I now being charged listing fees I did not actually authorize?  GTC does NOT WORK for ALL sellers!!

Could you explain some of your answer?  I have been a GTC seller forever and am a 23 year Ebay seller.

When I search my items via Google, my Ebay items never come up, just my Etsy items.  Also, GTC for OOAK sellers like me penalizes me in Best Match and I slowly but surely drop to the bottom of search for my long tail items (antiques and collectibles).  I have not seen increased visibility with GTC, just worse visibility.  I think the search algorithm is geared towards sell through which is best achieve with MQ new items or sellers selling exclusively at auction.  GTC OOAK sellers suffer in search.

See, Ebay knows whats best for us! I knew it!

I mean, having it optional and allowing the individual seller decide what was best for them doesn't really make sense, after all what do sellers know?

I will be leaving ebay myself as I totally agree with you. Going to find better things to do with my time over this stupid and ridiculous scam for more profits for ebay and less for sellers like myself who like to list with the 30 day fixed price listing. ADIOS AMIGOS!

I'm a very frequent Buyer since 2010 and from what I'm reading here (and have researched), I think this is a misconceived process implemented by a company who is not listening to its Customers.

I wanted to open a Sellers Account and would not do that now, for this reason alone (but there are many others).

I'm in Total Solidarity with Sellers (and Buyers).  Until this and some other serious issues are addressed quickly by eBay, I will not make any further purchases (except for one coupon eBay gave me for mistakes they made 2X).  Maybe I'll buy a book on "Best Business Practices & How To Treat Your Customers" and have it shipped to eBay Leadership in San Jose.
