Does a partial refund prevent full refund/return if issue progresses to SNAD case?

Will spare all the details (posted on a different thread) - but I have a "no return" item that a buyer says (falesly of course) has a defect.  I have good reason to think it is buyers remorse on what he paid (market value of item has dropped over time).  He messaged me and hinted at a partial refund or possibly putting a full refund request (SNAD I'm assuming) through ebay.  If I offer a partial refund does this protect/prevent from further actions (full refund) through ebay or Paypal?   If not, could I stand to lose the partial refund plus the full value of the item (i.e. lose more than the original value) if he does a SNAD case, Paypal case, or chargeback? If I do a partial - should I do it up front, or let the issue go to a formal case first.  Is a partial refund a formal resolution option in a SNAD claim?

If you issue the partial refund through the original PayPal transaction and the buyer then files an SNAD or chargeback, they will only get the rest of their money back. If you don’t have messages from the buyer that show that this is clearly remorse, you won’t win, you might as well accept the return.

Yes, a formal refund is a partial resolution opinion --

in a SNAD return request. If the buyer accepts the parcel, the parcel is payed, and the case closes.

But if the buyer declines the parcel offer, the case goes* to trial.

*You get to pick the remaining

Keep in mind the buyer can still file a credit card charge back

Unfortunately, having a no refund policy is not a policy on eBay. Did you have anything concrete in the message where they were suggesting a partial refund where it could sound a bit blackmailish? Just thinking. To me it's no different than threatening negative feedback to get what you want. Some customer service reps are not happy with that behaviour at all.

What I would do is no partial refund whatsoever. If you think the customer may anything they can use to create an Snad, well in that case, I would just allow the return and be done with it. It can be so exhausting and frustrating trying to fight through these situations. I've just found more sanity for myself it taking the return and blocking the buyer.

All the best, Laura.

“The OP said she has a no returns policy and there IS a no returns policy on eBay.

Re: Does a partial refund prevent full refund/return if issue progresses to SNAD case?

Thanks all for your input - everyone is so helpful here!  I especially appreciate the screenshot of the SNAD case resolution choices.  In 19 years on ebay I haven't dealt with this issue before (I'm a small time seller).  What happens if the buyer rejects a partial refund offered?  Is there a negotiating process or does it go straight to a claim?  This is what the person wrote, seems like they worded it carefully so it doesn't appear like a threat "I will probably be filing for a return unless we can work something out as far as a partial refund for the issue."

Do not fall for the partial refund scammer. Tell them to return for a full refund. Chances are you won't hear from them again
