Hello,
Out of thousands and thousands of sales I got this was the first I ever got this kind of request from a buyer. A buyer emailed me to ask if I could donate or just give her an item for free. It's one of my pricier dresses at $29.99...She said that she has lupus is on a fix income and her daughter wants the dress for her graduation because she is Valedictorian with honors..She said she could pay me five dollars at most
I thougth this request was very very odd. What do you think? Do you think it's weird or out of the ordinary for ebay??? How would you handle it? I am flabbergasted and want to laugh but I kind of feel sorry for her

"My cat needs dental work"
"My mother has dementia"
"I have anxiety and depression and need this item because it'll make me happy and help my health issues"
"I know it's 10 days after Christmas but I forgot to get my mom a present and she would love this item, would you mind discounting it 90% for me? It's for my mom..."
Did I mention: "My cat needs dental work?" (I've heard this one twice)
Excuses I've heard as a seller over the years... real excuses, too. I'm not making these up, sadly.

Does ebay have a position concerning this type of request upon a seller ?

I had received a few of these ridiculous excuses as well. All I would say if you had to reply is “we can make a trade. I will send you the dress and you give me 29.99”.

My oldest son had a pair of Lebron's for sale December of last year...he got an message asking him if he "would consider donating the shoes cause her 15 year old son has been depressed since his girlfriend broke up with him"..
He answer? NONE..he just deleted and blocked...

Or, 'I'll donate the dress to you and you can donate the $29.99 to me - you go first'.

I believe there was a seller who advised something like this.
I wish I could help you out, but my husband ran off, and left me with 6 kids, 3 dogs, and parents to support. I am paying off a car and a house, and the house needs extensive repairs and the car is in the shop. The refrigerator broke and we lost all the food in the freezer, and they shut the utilities off. The roof leaks and I really need to do something about that. I depend on my ebay sales to take care of these financial needs. Thank you for understanding!

Why, sure there is always room to improve - tell them they are welcome to donate to YOUR cause, as often as they would like.

I am not a charity and can't afford to just give items away for free. Block and delete.

How about adding: But, believe me, I understand how you feel. MY daughter baby sat (you know, worked) 120 hours to SAVE up the money for her prom dress, and her boyfriend dumped her the morning they were supposed to go. She sold her dress on here, and someone talked her into too low a price. My daughter paid to ship the dress to the buyer and ended up with a net loss of $5 in the transaction. She still hasn't gotten over the trauma of that week.

I will give it possible consideration if you will first send me a complete set of your medical records as well as you daughter's high school transcripts.

I can not believe the cat one and the one about it will help their depression if you gave them free stuff..that is beyond bizarre...Makes mine look so tame.. AHAHHAHAH
