With reduced profit margins and slower sales, it's getting really hard to make a decent profit. I now live in fear of checking my messages everyday, that there might be another return or sale cancellation, that essentially nullifies any profit I make on this site. Do any of you also live in fear?

HECK YEA!!!
But not just for returns or cancellation. All other things too, despite if some of them are easily solved with additional legwork that I didn't have to do... INRs, high volume of buyer questions, lame lowball offers (and I don't even have best offer), buyer's looking to weasel partial refunds out of me, unauthorized purchase notices, frivolous Veros, etc...
I've lived in fear every day for over 10 years. My wife still doesn't understand how I hold it together. I tell her, it comes with the territory having your own business.

No.
99% of the messages I get are from Ebay, telling me to lower prices or some other sort of spammy stuff.

For some reason I've trained my eye to not even notice those emails from ebay, haha. I never see them.

Used to feel exactly that way! I would have heart palpitations upon seeing a message.
Because it usually meant an “issue”.
Now...I don’t feel anxious upon receipt of mail. Most messages are spam from eBay these days. Ever since the Webinterpret fiasco, I don’t even open them anymore. Straight to delete.

Nope, I never had any return ever period and have been selling for years, I message with every buyer and they keep coming back for more.

Eh eh same here.

Fear the unreasonable buyer.
I wish Ebay would take the TOP TIPS and put them in a dark area.

With all due respect, let me assure you that it's not because you are doing something better than everyone else. You've just been lucky.
I wish you continued good luck.

Absolutely Not !! I get questions out the wazoo about my items. BUT I FEAR NOTHING !! That's what selling is a about!! NO FEAR !! If you are worrying all the time about negative messages/cancellations/returns,etc. They may just come !! Don't Worry Be Happy 😄

No, I don't live in fear. I sell here knowing the risks and I factor that in to my business model.

Exactly!!!
Package your product well, ship expediently, give the customer what they expect and then some. No Problems!
I'm a small seller, but also a buyer on eBay. Some people just haven't got a clue. I've gotten some rather trashy orders over the years.
Fragile product in a Mylar bag comes to mind, (just for one). Or how about a box with no packing.... ugh!!! Etc....
If you're going to sell/ship an item, but aren't sure how to, then please take it to a shipping service that can help. And PLEASE!!!!!...... No more cat spray on the package or contents. DOUBLE UGH!!!

When you realize that there are many things you do have control over--like providing an excellent product and service, and realize that there are many things you have absolutely no control over, returns, false snads, etc, you just breeze along knowing that whatever happens it will be OK. That's been our case.

As a buyer I've received terrible packages to as some sellers just don't care, stuff sent in old cereal boxes cut up, or wrapped in plastic wrap so you have to be a magician to open it. Or I buy an ancient document from eBay France for resale on eBay USA but the seller decided to put no cardboard protection with it and the document gets bent in transit. Or in one case I received a letter from a seller that looked like it had been run over by a bus. Many sellers don't even mention its an eBay item. I always put stickers in with orders please leave 5 star feedback, please follow or visit my eBay shop. I message new buyers telling them I have shipped their item and they should receive it when. Many sellers do not message me when I buy something on eBay. Don't ship a dvd without bubble wrap protection many do. My rant here is a lot of sellers don't care about the buyer expierence and just happy to get the money and not care about how they send the goods to buyers. As a seller I pack in a way I would expect to receive. Its not luck its striving for perfection. Some of my buyers are good friends of mine now for years. And I get feedback like this'
THIS seller is a credit to eBay. Wish they were all like this. Above and beyond.
