Do we still get a defect for refunding a buyer?

This has got to be the most idiotic eBay policy ever, have they removed it by now? I'd like to refund a buyer without making him jump through the hoops of requesting a refund from his end.

Does eBay still give you an out of stock defect if you refund without "buyer approval"?

The buyer did not ask him to cancel the sale. He listed items for a distributor and did not check the stock with his distributor. The distributor sold out and now he wants people to tell him how to cancel the sale in ways that would not hurt his seller rating. Telling him message his buyers and have them file for a return due to the item not being as described, Item not being delivered, Or have them say they changed their mind is false. He did not check stock and sold a item that was out of stock. HE needs to cancel using the correct reason and take the defect. Buyers hate when this happens and get upset when sellers do these things and are not honest about the reason for the purchase being cancelled. There are numerous post complaining about this. Sellers like him have tons of bad feedback because of this. IT provides a bad buying experience not because the item sold out but because he and sellers like him can not be honest about the fact they did not due their duediligence's and check there distributors stock on a regular basis. It is not the buyers fault and asking the buyer to start a return or cancel request blaming them self is the wrong answer. Sellers like all of you should be removed from ebay.

Yes, the OP made presented that question.  And it was a question, NOT a statement of what transpired with the transaction the OP is wanting to refund.

When a seller refunds a buyer in total without a cancellation or return request associated with it in Ebay, no matter what the reason is, Ebay gives the seller an OOS [out of stock] defect.

I don't pretend to know why the OP needs to do this refund as the OP has not given any details and does not appear to want to participate in the thread they created.  But I do not assume to know it was for OOS as that just may not be correct.  There could be many reasons to try and figure out how to do this and the OP did say they were trying to make the process as easy as possible on their buyer.

So the buyer needed the item and weeded through the several people listing the item for your distributor. The buyer placed the order with you but you had not done your part and checked stock. You did not remove the listing and sold a item you and your distributor could not deliver. Now you want away to cancel the sell with out it hurting your rating.  You and these other sellers want to send the buyer a message saying sorry I did not do my job and have cause a inconvenience to you but if you don't mind can you cancel this order in such away that it does not hurt my seller rating so I can continue to do this to others. Sounds like a real **bleep**ty thing to ask the buyer man up take the defect and do your job better. Learn from your mistake and check stock on a regular basis. Now the buyer will have to look through the other sellers with the same item and make a new purchase hoping it is not from the same distributor and the item will indeed be in stock. It is kind of messed up you want the 10 to 20 percent for placing the order for the buyer but do not want to do any work to make sure the items you are listing are still in stock and that the prices are correct. You are just providing bad buying experience for buyers and reducing the number of buyers on ebay.
