Do sneakers still get authenticated when selling internationally, how protected are we?

So I started posting my sneakers with International shipping. Today I had a buyer with Zero buys, Zero feedback, zero selling, and just opened their account on 1/12/22 with today being 1/15/22. When I asked "why is the account so new?" that stated they "lost their other account info and couldn't log back in". I saw all red flags, and decided to cancel the item, it just didn't feel right..

I am fairly new on selling on eBay but I thought all sneakers get authenticated?  Is it correct for me to now think if a sneaker is going to be shipped international it will not go through eBay's authentication program? the sneaker I was selling was over $400 and if authentication will not go through eBay when shipping international we would seem to be vulnerable to scams.

and the reply was I lost my other account credentials...

Well that's disturbing.

Does he mean 'displaced' or does he mean his earlier account is NARU I wonder?

Hmmm, I wonder how many new buyers would look at your feedback and think/question,  'Ah, high-jacked account?', no matter what you might explain, if they asked.  And, on the flip side, the person which you asked the question of, might not be telling the truth.

Just an observation, not an insinuation.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Sneakers will be authenticated by eBay if it's sold through the GSP Program. This is a great way to ensure you will be protected if the buyer does pull a claim on you.

There are certain exclusions where it doesn't go to the authenticator such as APO and US Protectorate addresses.

Hope this helps.

I sent some international. Ebay had me send to authentication then they released my funds and sent item on. Ive sold some other stuff like harley davidson sweater, toolbox and all have went well. New accounts i would be leary of. I got scammed on mercari by buyer in usa for $1,300 be careful but all new buyers arent bad.

This is an older thread and will be shut down by the mods shortly.  I'd always recommend starting your own thread for things like this.

That said, international sales through the new eBay International Shipping Program (usually referred to here as the eIS) are one of the safest sales you can make!  eBay, for now, has covered every single issue that has ever cropped up, and has refunded buyers while letting us keep the sale in every case where it was needed.
