I know this has happened to you before, but for those newbies, do not panic!
I left the package inside my mail box as my wife was waiting for the mail carrier to show up. Our dogs are barking like crazy, signs of him walking by. I always joke with him by yelling at my dogs "hey guys! It's just your dinner coming by!" 
None the less, in family conversations and jokes, I always tell that my daughter looks more the mail carrier than me. Even though he wasn't there when she was conceived. I mean, we weren't living at our actual address but in another address and he wasn't the mail carrier then. Was he?
So, I left knowing he would pick the packages up. Two of them are already delivered, first class. The third one, media, nothing showing for a week. Until today. What a relief! A $40 item.
So, what I think it is that they are giving priority to first class, parcel post and priority mail for the season.
Don't panic newbie, they are things of the trade.
