Do they pay more for their store, or fees, or higher fees, or higher promo rates??, My guess is no, Please correct me if I'm wrong, But if they don't pay more for anything, then why is their category singled out to have commercials with all that added exposure, While the rest of us do not receive the same benefit??

eBay Motors fees for parts and accessories are pretty much similar to fees in all the other Categories (they are listed on the usual Fee pages). Most eBay Motors categories have reduced FVF's if you have a Store subscription.
Vehicle sales are different as these sales are non-binding and do not have a FVF but do have a high listing fee.
Historically Motors has been one of eBays major Categories, long before watches, sneakers, trading cards, handbags and jewellery. I've seen numbers as high as $200B annually spent on aftermarket auto parts in the US alone.

Still it seems Very Unfair to the rest of us, Commercials are not cheap & I would hate to think that a portion of my fees as well as everyone else goes towards their benefit!

I have no kids, I pay a not inconsequential amount of school taxes. Theory being that the results benefit everyone in the community.
Same is true of ebay........commercials for anything hopefully bring buyers to the site and they will buy a variety of items......some of which may be yours........ As said, Motors is a big piece of the pie and theoretically the ads will bring more buyers than an ad for a pyrex bowl.

There can be commercials for Home goods, Collectibles, Clothing, Etc., & Then maybe we all could be making more sales, I don't think focusing on one category is fair !

Mass market advertising for Ebay is targeted for categories which they feel are unique or special. like Ebay Motors. They are often intended to bring in buyers who never have considered buying the items on Ebay because they are unaware they are sold on Ebay.
Ebay uses targeted marketing, especially online, for other categories. Sellers are often unaware of Ebay targeted marketing because they are not the target, nor do they behave like the targeted buyers.
When sellers come to this forum to complain about unfair, they resemble the elephant and the blind men.

Who cares what categories are being advertised, as long as they are advertising. Advertising can bring more buyers into the site. More buyers that aren't just interested in the category they saw on the advertisement. They look in one area and then go to others. This is a good thing.
Are you of the opinion that because they advertise for a specific category that new buyers would not look anywhere on Ebay other than the targeted category.
On the seller forum we see sellers talking about new buyers for one reason or another all the time. For me personally I don't really care how the new buyers come to discovering the site, just as long as they keep coming.
I think you are taking this personally and you shouldn't.

LMAO @ fair.
I flash back to my little girl, when she was 8, lamenting that the fact that her ice cream cone fell on the ground as "That's not faaaaaaairrr." Just because her brother was born with a better sense of balance ... not fair.
"Yes, little Suzy. Life is not fair."
Would it be 'fair' for Ebay to spend money advertising products that don't sell?
Just because you want help getting someone to buy your stuff that won't sell?
Ebay spends advertising money where it does the most good. You can bet that they've done high faulting analysis and ran many, many expensive algorithms to prove that auto parts is where the future is.
It is their money. They get to spend it. It IS fair.

eBay motors market share vs some other categories market share
There is a good possibility that eBay has some concept of what they are doing

eBay has different advertising channels for different markets.
I don’t watch tv so I’ve never seen an eBay commercial for Motors or any other category but I have seen eBay ads on YouTube and Insta for shoes, clothing and collectibles.
They probably found out the people looking to purchase cars and car parts online are more likely to watch traditional tv while buyers of different items are more likely to see ads in other venues.
Its not unfair, its market research.

Thee is also the possibility that they have no clue what they are doing....LOL!

going since 1995 .................... they may have some clue about what's going on.... LOL!

Is this a joke?
Ebay does commercials for Motors because it’s one of the categories left where Ebay leaves Amazon in the dust. I’d also bet Motors does more in sales than any other category on Ebay (and that’s if you don’t even include sold cars).

I think we have all questioned many of the "changes" the last 10 years of that though....
