I sold as baseball cap, pre owned in very good condition for $39, it looked unused. I just got this message from the buyer..."Thank you I just received the hat and it’s great. It has an issue. The Velcro back has come apart see picture. Please let me know how to proceed" . He sent me one tiny photo of the back strap that is falling apart. The hat had no issues and you can even see in my photos that there was no damage. I have a close up of the strap. I asked for more photos with the surrounding area. I thought I might offer him a partial refund because that seems like what he is insinuating. If I just ask him to return for a full refund, I'm going to get back a damaged hat. Seems like I lose either way.

"Looks like a dog chewed it up"...is OP's descriptive word describing what damage looks like. No where for sure is OP saying that is exactly what happened.
It's like saying my hair looks like a rats nest...descriptive words which actually its not a rats nest, just looks like one, LOL

There's more wear damage beneath the velcro strap area, look lower in the photo. This has me convinced it most likely is not the same hat.

I'm leaning toward it not being the same hat.

I am 99.9% sure they're different hats! But there is a tag in the buyer's picture too. I used @city*satins lightened buyer picture and flipped the picture from the OP's listing to show the tag on the same side and I'm convinced that the buyer is showing a different hat.

LOL, rather like my comparison to vintage. No one’s talking with scientific exactness here. It’s a conversation not a cross examination.

Actually, that seems more to me like it’s the same hat. Not less.
Bottom line, buyer’s pic is too crummy.
Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through for a $40 cap, though. My other issue is that I simply think tales of that sort of thing are greatly exaggerated.

hi alberta..yes i vaguely see it..but Im more convinced than ever that this is not the same hat..and for the buyer to email the op within a half hour of receiving the hat is very suspicious..probably planned out all along.

ITA! And it wasn't even within 1/2 hour; it was 5 minutes. I call **bleep** on the buyer.
From one of the OP's posts:
"The hat was delivered to the buyers house at 2:55 pm. He messaged me at 3pm. So, in 5 minutes, he opened the box, wrote a message and took a photo and sent the message? "

When I look at the OP's listing - ignoring the strap itself, since the buyer's picture may show it inside out - but looking only at the body of the hat I see a fabric that appears to be low gloss polyester with a medium thread count and a slightly coarse hand. When I look at the buyer's picture i see a body constructed of medium gloss polyester microfiber with a high thread count and a smooth hand.

Oh wow..unbelievable..the plot thickens..this is another Ebay unsolved mystery that we will all be waiting for the outcome.

Very good..very detailed!

Yeah, I think I'd "take one for the team" on this one. If seller gets back a damaged hat that he/she did sell, or a different hat, at least seller can report the buyer. This is more important than in the past because ebay has stated they are going to start counting reports against buyers and examining those reports more, eventually with some kind of sanction against said buyer. I would reply "return for refund" and adhere to the return process, follow all the rules, including report the buyer.

Just checking....are you in the same time zone?
I ask because a buyer today paid for something a little after 8 a.m. her time but it was after 11 a.m. my time and she wanted me to get in the mail today which was pretty much impossible to do given what was involved in finding it, packing it, labeling it, combing my hair, getting changed into something I could go out in public in, getting in the car and driving 5 miles to the PO. That would be on a good Saturday.
But today it was totally impossible since I have a cherry picker, a truck, a woodchipper and assorted other tree removal equipment parked in my driveway and in front of the house while I get a tree removed before nature removes it into or onto my or my neighbor's house.
