Digging through "stuff" and having one of those "what do we have here then?" days

Brass, about 10" wide and say 3 1/2" deep, comes with a mallet.

I thought maybe a hand held "gong". Someone suggested a nutcracker, but I think it would be way too noisy.

I vote for nut bowl. I have a wooden nut bowl for sale with a much more precarious perch in the center. If I were to whack a nut with a mallet your little cup shaped perch looks safer than the "stump" in the middle of my bowl.

Thanks! It was actually pretty good. Got the eBay room with all the tubs and boxes pretty well straightened out, and in the process, my office area is lookin' good.  Have 9 boxes packed up for Purple Heart.  Went to the casino one day and came home a winner, which is very rare.  Hey, $80 will help make up for the 48% sales were down this month v. July 2016.  🙂

Although I have never seen one with a stem in the center, I am wondering if this could be a singing bowl.  It is large, so it would be temple sized.  Normally mallets would be wood rather than metal but you never know.  Have you tried striking the side of the bowl or the stem with the mallet to see if it produces anything like a clear note?  The bowl should be sitting on a pillow or a pad of some sort when you strike it.
