Did anyone else notice this new glitch when trying to list items?

I enter the ISBN to get the eBay catalog information.   A few options come up.  When I pick on the one that matches my book I then get an error message saying  "Look's like something is wrong, please try again".  This first began last night and it is happening now no matter which book and ISBN that I enter.

I had a few that wouldn't relist or "sell similar" because they were listed as Books-Other. Try Books-Non Fiction and they should be okay.  No idea why this is happening.

Books categories are being reworked. Categories are being reduced to just a handful. "Cookbooks" will now be Non-fiction. "Others" is being done away with completely.  It's going to take some time to get it sorted out.

"Books categories are being reworked."
... are there any more frightening words?

Do you have some source for this?

I've noticed that one of my non-fiction category browses is no longer producing the right results.
171243 NF / HIST / US / STATE & LOCAL
The results count used to be 7000-8000 total items

meaning several hundred new per day.
The results total count now is over 70,000.

Given your information I am afraid that that Topic

has been "reworked" into oblivion.

Ebay has tried this hare-brained scheme in the past (many many years ago) where they got rid of many Books categories and just dumped everything (hundreds of thousands of books) in one big heap on the floor.

They effectively required the buyer to rummage through the whole mess for themselves.
Fortunately back then they backed off and reinstated the current category structure.

If this revision extends to A&C I fear a lot of book customers

who browse (vs search) will just give up and go outside and play.

I do more browsing than searching since I'm looking for the books I don't even know exist and compacting categories may make this an untenable process.

Are categories being eliminated?  My understanding was that categories were being reworked but improved.

i.e. Cookbooks would be under Nonfiction/cookbooks.

I just looked at the Nonfiction category and the number of sub-categories is rather pathetic - so maybe you're right.  I did send feedback.

Would also be nice if sellers paid more attention to WHERE they were listing.  IMO Ebay should make this a more prominent selection on the listing page.

Will the "reworking" stop the megas just dumping their container loads into whatever category they feel like at the time? Most likely not.

You are probably correct. Megas are the cause of the category mess to start with. They didn't care then, they are not going to care now.

But messing with the categories means they can claim they "tried".

Re: Did anyone else notice this new glitch when trying to list items?

Booksellers have enough problems without eBay eliminating sub-categories!!! I don't sell or list enough books to worry about it anymore but it seems plumb stupid in an already overloaded area. They are really shooting themselves in the foot and hurting their sellers. The 12% FVF is ridiculous for both sellers and customers in this saturated category. It's almost like they don't want booksellers or want to concentrate on the mega dealers only.

@myjunqueyourtreasure

Hey...and I will say it again in case sellers haven't read the fine print...they are changing up categories and Item Specifics while your items are active to what "ebay AL" (not HAL lolol) decides where it should be. With the notation: if they move your item to what "ebay thinks" depending on the category, there might be a change in your fees? More fees, not less is what I am thinking. Again, sometimes I read these policies wrong, but that is what I got out of it.

You mean to say that they STILL have enough ammo to do that?  Smiley Surprised
