Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

I sell diabetic test strips.  Does anyone have any insight why the completed prices have dropped to less than half what they were in early November.

Usually when I list strips BIN, they sell within about 15 minutes.  Another 20 minutes and I'm paid through PayPal.  Out the door they go.

I've had two listings that were active for almost two weeks.  When they did sell

eventually on December 7 and December 9, one had 88 views and the other had 55 views.  Thanks for any comments.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

My best guess is that more people are selling them, and a couple of them probably started the race to the bottom in this market because they think price point is the only way they can compete, with the ultimate result that these will eventually be at such roc bottom prices that only the sellers from China will be able to make any sort of profit on them.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

  1. Could be that people were spending Christmas money for Christmas presents, etc., and had already purchased what they needed earlier.
  2. How were your prices compared to competition. eBay is in a race to the bottom now.  Keep that in mind!

Great! 45.8% down over the same time last year with 2x+ items listed. Are you impressed? I'm certainly not!

I always check completed listings for current prices.  Is this race to the bottom affecting other product categories?   Hey, thanks for writing.

yes...when you click on a listing now ebay shows you where you can get the item cheaper.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

What are you selling them for?

I am a diabetic.  My strips cost me $25 for 100 strips on insurance.

$50 for out of pocket when I had to replace them too early.  Left them at the hotel in Maine.

These are for one touch ultra.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

Hi, Thanks for writing.   My prices are pretty much in line with the current selling prices for FreeStyle Lite and OneTouch Ultra.    100 FreeStyle Lite's run about $59 - $65.

Personally I would only buy medical supplies from a store.  Only way I would buy them on ebay would be if you were much cheaper than say CVS, which you are not.

So that could explain it.

I see you also sell adult diapers.  To be honest I got them way cheaper for my mom and MIL and I can use my courtesy card to get point.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

Heck I have been buying all my test strips on ebay for years now. With my insurance Walgreens costs me 80 dollars for 150 strips of True Track Walgreens OTC brand they work great. I buy them on ebay for 90 dollars delivered for 600 strips, why would I buy them any where else?

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

I know, it's sad we all need to list as fixed price and not list them for less then $100, all the people selling low will sell 1st.  Then they will have to pay our price.  I send messages to people to let them know when mine sell for higher amounts but we need to start a facebook  private group and discuss how to get the price back up.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

Have you compared prices on Amazon. Last I checked mine were 50 cents each new from supplier. Which is a price drop.

Re: Diabetic Strip Price Plunge Since November

Perhaps there has simply been a price drop to that medical need on the market in general.  I'm always delighted when a prescription we need or a medical aid we require is suddenly far less expensive to buy on my next trip to the pharmacy.

There has been so much in the news about the overpricing of needed medical aids, etc. lately... thinking of the EpiPen incident, maybe a couple of others.  Lots of gouging on supplies that some people absolutely have to have, so easy targets to gouge that price out of.

It's sort of considered a disgrace by some that medicines and healthcare products are so overpriced in the United States when the same things are sold so MUCH cheaper in Europe, in Canada, in Mexico, etc.

Perhaps these needed test strips are simply going to be available to those who need them at an overall lower cost everywhere eventually, and this is just the beginning where some are able to buy bulk and provide them to those who are in need of them at a certain lower cost, and will do that for their customers.  Who knows what's behind it.
