Who is determining what amount an item is selling for is price gouging? And who determines the products that are essential? I've just had kids multi vitamins listings, elderberry, and vitamin C listings taken down due to a price gouging policy? I've sold many and have all positive feedbacks from buyers. Besides competitors and random users using the price gouging report option, who sits determining what is too much to sell an item for? Sellers are selling the same items for double the amount.. I just dont agree with this. I sell on Ebay to try and make extra money. I dont sell on ebay to lose m ok ney or break even..

Who decides? State and Federal laws and the general public highly supports this stance.
The amount? Anything over 10% of the price from which is was prior to this pandemic is considered price gouging by most states and the federal gov. Listing on auctions instead of buy it now and final sell is over 10% just because the general public bid it up is not a viable excuse according to the law. 10% period.
Essential items? During this pandemic, it's pretty clear and obvious- just look at any news report or the shelves in any store; These are items known to be in need during this pandemic: masks, gloves, cleaning supplies, vitamins, and anything that was horded in the stores to beyond having any left in the stores- probably done by hopeful resellers hoping to make a profit- like Toilet Paper.

This is about ebay following the laws of the states, starting with California, since they are headquartered there, along with many other states have followed suit. AG offices all over the states are gearing up to prosecute large sellers that sell (gouge) on this and similar platforms as well as B&M stores that have been reported.

I think if it gets reported... EBay just removes it! They do not have the staff to investigate. I had gourmet spices that I’ve sold for years and for the same exact price taken down for price gouging. It’s getting out of hand. Your competition can report you and boom it’s gone, and if EBay would wave their 10% fees for us old sellers like they are the new sellers I’d be happy to reduce my price and make only a 10 percent profit....but that will not happen.

Pull all of them down till this mess is over, while I agree with you, if you relist or keep any others up they'll just get pulled as well... and no one knows how many violations = perma ban

Hmmmm, I wonder where all those fake reports coming from? 🤔🤔🤔

Your elderberry syrup typically sells for $10.00 a bottle or 2 for $20.00. You're asking $59.99 for 2 bottles with free shipping. I would say that that qualifies as Price Gouging. Looks like you are taking advantage of any product that people might need/want to keep themselves healthy. Shame on you.

People need to chill out on over reporting. I understand reporting TP, Sanitizer and other much needed items. They are taking advantage of peoples needs. When you report a toy, or video games you are just being a jerk. I sold a RARE video game a few years back for $500. BECAUSE it was a RARE non essential. You do not need these items. Please stop the madness.

Vitamins are NOT on the price gouging "essentials" list of any state.

It's $30 more than you claim the rrp is and includes free shipping.
Since when is Elderberry syrup an "essential" item?

I just wanted to let you know my experience and perspective. I am one of the ones that is selling cleaning supplies. I have been harassed by eBay users and just today one basically told me that it wouldn't be too much longer until I met my maker because I was going to catch the virus. Of course ebay does nothing about the harassment or threats of death... But besides that hear is what I had listed earlier and my opinion of it. I believe there is a demographic of ppl (wealthier ppl) that do not want to bother with going to the store, hunting down product, taking of risk of being exposed to the virus. These ppl are essentially paying for a service that someone is providing by putting themselves at risk, taking their time to shop, list, package up said items to potential buyers. And besides is anyone complained or reported big pharma for price gouging the **bleep** out of us everyday for a pill?? It all boils down to supply and demand. Am I personally going to get rich off of selling a few bundles on eBay of cleaning supplies?? Not at all. But I get satisfaction knowing I have helped someone that didn't want to leave their comfort zone yet still have the items they want, mind you not NEED!!
So here is what my description was on the item removed just a bit ago... and I already know I opened a can of worms with doing this and welcomed getting reported.
"Pine-Sol 24 oz $2
Dawn Apple blossom scent hand soap 40 oz $5
Lysol toilet bowl clean 24 oz $2
2 bars of Dial soap $1
Ricola cough drops 45-count $5
Playtex large gloves $1
Kleenex tissue 2 packs $0.75
Total cost of items = $16.75 for this lot / bundle (most can be verified on Walmart website)
eBay + PayPal + Promotional listing fees = 18.8% (this is my rolling average percentage for the last 90 days)
Shipping cost for Medium flat rate box (not including materials and handling, price can be verified on USPS website)
$13.20
55-18.8% (fees I cannot control) =10.34
55-10.34-16.75-13.20=
Profit: $14.71
Out of the $14.71 will also be packaging materials, time and labor for shopping and shipping, researching CDC, photographing, editing, post listing and answering customers questions. So if you are concerned that the profit is too high please send an offer of what you think the total cost should be for this lot.
And to add one more thing... I am not hording items like this to resale. I pick up extras when I shop for myself or buy bulk auctions that have certain products like these in them. There are many people that cannot get these items because of their personal situation. I am providing a service with very low profit margin to a select demographic of people.
So if you by chance still think this is price gouging then by all means report the listing. Thank you for your time :)"

One more quick thing:
When listing an item on eBay usually it auto populates with their suggested price, going off of recent sales.
So you would think that eBay would have figured out a better algorithm to take care of this over site or do they simply not care because bottom line they get their percent off of every sale!!!
Do you think eBay will refund that amount to anyone for the already millions of items sold that were over inflated... I think they are going to keep their share of it...
Food for thought!
