Damaged return.

Sold a glass statue and it was returned with a chip, well you know glass buyers one chip and forget it.

So I called ebay and the rep said not to refund the buyer. They said let the buyer call them and complain then they would initiate the refund and then I can call and appeal. That sounds hokey to me, won't that strike against me for not refunding? Then I can call? but what am I doing now? I am calling now to take care of this, why ebay, why?

Seems like there's no consistency with eBay's customer service reps. One may advise one thing while another will tell you to do the complete opposite. Use your own common sense. You care most about your business. I'd say, take care of it now and chalk it up to experience. eBay is not interested in helping sellers. I had a $300 doll mailed first-class to Italy that eBay decided to refund the buyer (out of my funds) because she hadn't received it!! A year ago, if I had proof it left USA, it was good enough. This year, buyers are refunded regardless of what's right. All the buyer had to say is she didn't receive it and I was penalized by eBay big time!!

Do you have the rooster back and is it the same one you sent?

Ebay is just going to give you an unresolved seller strike for not refunding the buyer and letting it escalate. Call again, get someone from the USA, report the buyer first. File a mail fraud form. Then tell a US rep what the other rep told you. These days ebay refuses to get in between sellers and buyers and there is no recourse. Maybe just maybe on a long shot you get credited by ebay for the sale if the buyer has a bad history.

I am sorry that the CSR you spoke with was less than helpful to you.  You are correct, what they told you would ultimately hurt your selling account.  AKA HOKEY!!!

In today's Ebay, there is nothing you can do except report the buyer for a misuse of the return system IF you believe the buyer damaged the item.  Beyond that, your only resolution for this is to refund the buyer.  If you don't do it willingly before the buyer escalates the claim, Ebay will force you to refund and then you do get a defect on your account for having a case without Seller resolution.

While one will NOT cause your selling account any harm, it is there for a year and you just don't know what the future will bring, so you need to always stay proactive with any Return Request that is filed against you.

Just refund your buyer, report them and move on.  Most of us have experienced what you have.  But you will get no help from Ebay regarding this, so just refund and move forward.

3 Hours on the phone, transfered from dept to dept they transfered me to automotive section then lost me and I had to call back then disconnected again. This is amazing in a bad way. I can't get a US rep.

You don't need one.  There is nothing they are going to do to help you.  I'm sorry you wasted all that time.  Ebay's new policy on how returns are processed prevents the CSRs from being of any help to you.

Yes you can do that.  But this shouldn't be a surprise.  It has been well publicized by Ebay.  It was in the Fall Seller Update of last year and in talked about is the Spring and Summer seller updates as well.  Not to mention the threads have been full of sellers not liking the changes.

I can always go back to selling junk, no protection on the expensive items. Junk it is then.

Wait...I thought that in the Pottery and Glass category, you can hold back up to 50% of the refund for the returned item being damaged. Even if you don't offer free returns. Is this not true?

Sorry this happened to you.

Is a carrier insurance claim an option?

I've never done this, but I'm sure my turn will come.

I don't know about the first part but I do know there is no insurance to claim unless the buyer added it before sending it back.  If it was a SNAD, there is no insurance included on the return label either.  If the seller initially added insurance, the package being shipped back just voided it.

Sad but true.
