Damaged items

I had an item for sale and a buyer pointed out damage that I did not notice at the time I listed it, but to me the damaged item is trash now and it isn't worth the hassle so I just ended the listing.  My question is am I allowed to give the damaged item to the person who pointed out the damage since it is going in the trash otherwise?

Re: Damaged items

If they've already purchased it you can refund and send anyway. I can't think of how you could get their address if they haven't yet purchased it, as you can't exchange contact info unless there is a completed sale.

Re: Damaged items

Personally, unless they want to pay the shipping, why spend the money?

That said, you can relist the item with a unique title like "Thing for Dave" with a price as low as $0.99 and send them a link to it. That will keep you within policy. Keep in mind you will be fee'd for this as well.

Re: Damaged items

If it's trash, why would they want it?

Why would you pay for shipping?
Why would you spend time waiting for them to pick it up?
What day is garbage pickup in your neighbourhood?

I am old and cynical.

The complainant knows something you don't.

I took it as a "kindness of the heart" thing for the OP. But you're right, if the 'buyer' suggested they could just "take it off your hands" I'd be skeptical too.

Re: Damaged items

Maybe the person who pointed out the damage is actually interested in buying the item but because of the damage, wanted you to know that your price is too high for its condition.

I think before throwing the item away, I would ask him if he is interested in buying it the way it is.  If he is interested in buying it damage and all, I would relist it as a price that is agreeable to both of you, even if it's only a couple of dollars.   If it turns out he is not interested in buying it but was only "window shopping", then you can throw it away.

Re: Damaged items

EBAY does not allow you to exchange "contact information" and would consider that you were trying to make a deal "outside EBAY" which is a big no-no.
