A buyer messaged me and says he's having trouble purchase 4 items in one combined order in his cart. He says he can do two orders of two though. There is no discount on buying by volume for these.
The buyer asks if he makes two orders, if I can combine them together into one package and ship it to him so he can save on the shipping price.
These items all currently have free shipping. Should I tell him that, or should I just agree and say "I'd be glad to give you free shipping on both your orders."?

You, we, and the buyer know that there is no such thing as "free shipping". We know it is rolled into the selling price.
The choice is yours as to shipping together and giving the buyer a little "partial" because you indeed saved some $$, or just press onward as listed.
In this instance, if not offered a little incentive, a buyer could choose to buy elsewhere, or choose to buy all four items, and just space them out one at a time to get their monies worth on the "free shipping".

Have you read the posts from some sellers (and buyers) who ask us for the method that the rest of the sellers use to get free shipping from USPS? 😆

Yes, there are always some that have no concept of reality 😂
A well-treated buyer can be a repeat buyer.

The shopping cart has always presented some challenges and often glitches with multiple purchases especially with BIN/IPR items. Just build him a custom bundle listing and send him a link once it's posted. I am assuming you have the "free shipping" cost baked into the price of your items so it benefits you if you financially if you bundle all the items at the same price you would have sold them at individually. You are only paying for one shipping label.

It's free shipping. Why all the back and forth emails I don't know.
As long as you put tracking on each item together that comes together it doesn't matter.

I would just tell him Yes and that all items are Free shipping to begin with. You just copy and paste the tracking number into every item that goes into that mailing.
One thing I would wonder about is why he has to make two orders of 2 instead of one order for 4. Does he get an error message? What is he seeing that blocks him?
I know sellers can impose a purchase limit on new buyers to set a limit on how many items they can buy within 10 days but I doubt that buying two pair in two orders would be a workaround for that.
