Created a listing for Buy It Now - Can't revise. Banner saying I sent an offer. I DID NOT. SOLVED!😊

Please help!

I originally set up this listing (Ikea Shelving) for local pickup only, but a potential buyer is now asking me to ship the item. I’ve been trying to change the listing to allow shipping, but I can’t seem to do it. I’ve also searched the forum for similar situations, and many suggest letting the listing run its course. However, I see the date when the listing is set to auto-renew, and I’m unsure how to stop it from doing so.

Additionally, how can I view what offer was made? I suspect this might be an error on eBay’s part, but I’m not certain.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

First of all--are you sure you want to ship that?  If you look at your items on the hub you can click on actions beside that item and pull up "review all offers".   If you ever sent one, the toggle to send them automatically may be on.

If you don't want a listing to renew, you can end it, but you don't want to give ebay the idea you are selling it offsite, so I would be cautious about that since you are conversing with a potential buyer.

That item is too big to ship via the usual carriers. You'd have to use freight. Getting a shipping estimate will be difficult, and packing would require expertise and additional expense.  I strongly recommend that you stick with your original listing, and tell the buyer that you are sorry but you cannot ship this item.

That advice must have been about an auction-format listing, or about a fixed price listing long ago when sellers could choose a specific time frame.  Now, all fixed price listings are "Good  until canceled" and do not end unless Sold or if the seller ends the listing.  But the underlying advice is the same: Do not attempt to add shipping for this item.

If you just pull up the listing on the app, there's an option to view offers

Offers aren't valid for long (2 or 3 days I think), so you should be able to edit the item after a couple days. If there really is an issue/glitch you can always just end the item & relist it.

Odds are though, when they see how much it costs to ship something that size, they won't buy it

@mordecai8614  offers sent by sellers are now valid for 4 days.

eBay thought this was a good idea....

No way I'd try to ship that, leave it as local pick up.

If the buyer filed an INAD, you would have t pay to ship it back.

Have a great day.

Oof! Have you considered how you're going to ship that?  Ikea furniture is notoriously heavy.  You're likely looking at freight shipping which is going to take a big old chunk of your net income (remember eBay charges fees on the item plus shipping).  Also, you're likely to take a bit of a beating on the shipping materials if you don't have your original boxes.

If you really have your heart set on shipping that beast, do as fern*wood says and just end the listing.  You can either relist it or "sell similar" and make the adjustments you need to.

I think you were on the right track with your original choice to avoid shipping.  Perhaps another platform more friendly to local pickup would be an option for you to cross-list on?

I certainly hope not. Shipping that would be a complete nightmare (I notice a similar listing quoting a Shipping cost of $423), and you could be on the hook for a full refund if the buyer claims that it arrived with Shipping damage... even more if you wanted to have the item shipped back to you before refunding. Stick to your guns and keep it as Local Pickup Only.

Keep in mind that your interested buyer can always arrange to have a shipper of his choosing pick up the item from you. It's still officially a Local Pickup; there is no requirement that the buyer himself must be present. Just ensure that they have the pickup code so that you can prove that pickup occurred, and then the subsequent shipping and delivery is the buyer's responsibility, not yours.

You do not have Make Offer on your listing, so the interested party would have to make his offer to you in message form. You should see a Reply With Offer button at the top of his message, to which you can reply with that price or any counteroffer you want.

The main thing is, don't take on the responsibility of shipping that monster shelving unit; it may not end well.

Wow, fast responses! Thank you ALL! You guys are awesome for the Ebay community. 👍
I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! 🙏🙏
I'll take the advise and leave it as local pickup and let the interested party know.

If you set the listing up to make automatic offers, you would not know if there was an offer outstanding.
