1st ~ Why are you requiring me to add "Record" to the IS "Format" when the item is already listed in the "Vinyl Records" category and the word "Record" is already used in various IS in the listing (ie Record Label, Record Size, Record Grading) ?
Currently you're requiring that for 600+ listings that I have.. but that number grows every time I check.
2nd ~ You're requiring me to add the "Album Name" to my 45rpm listings. Most 45s use a "Song Title" (A-side / B-Side) not an "Album Name" unless it's an Extended Play or Punk/Metal or such.
However, some 45s have songs that are taken from a specific "Album". So, do I list the "Album Name" or the "Song Title" which might not be the name associated with the item I'm selling?
45rpm For Example: Watts 3rd Street Rhythm Band ~ Do Your Thing / A Dance, A Kiss And A Song. They both come from the Album Named "Together"
Sooo tell me, what do I put in the "Album Name" IS???????????????
Please see photos attached......

Thank you for reaching out to us about Item Specifics that will be required soon. In the Vinyl Records category this will apply to Artist, Album Name and Format. The latter will be pre-populated with "Record" in this specific category. Regarding the Album Name for singles, this will in most cases be equivalent to the song name/track title.
Filling in the Required item specifics will increase the findability of the item in search. Some item specifics are indexed for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and may also be used to match your listing to a product that may already have wide exposure. This should improve the chances of selling the item.
As the category changes roll out, there will be some fluctuation in the item specifics. This should settle down shortly. We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime.
Thank you again for taking the time to share this valuable feedback, and for choosing eBay!
Kind regards,
Arthur

What "wide exposure match" could the OP's 45 record have?
This is terrific for new mass-produced items. But for what many of us sell, it is not. Did you cut and paste from the wrong script for this one?
Sorry - but trying to get some "real" help here on item specifics across many categories. The canned responses are insulting. Oy vey.

Arthur ~
I'm glad to hear the eBay will save me the time to add "Record" to all my 45 records.
HOWEVER ~ Why should I be putting the Song Titles into the IS space for "Album Names" all the while the Song Titles are in my listing Title & Body of Description? Seems pretty clear that anyone searching that song name should have my listing showing.

@Anonymous : This seems contradictory; "Album" and "Single" are mutually exclusive. If the seller specifies "Single" as the "Duration" choice, then "Album" would not apply (at least in terms of the item being listed, which is a 45 Single, not an LP).
Are there any dependencies coded into the new Item Specifics, such that a choice of some value in Field 1 will determine the choices offered in Field 2, and so on?

Not in the ones we've been editing. Usually you put in your "title" and then from the "title" e-bay pulls in "recommended IS" and you click "accept" or "accept all"
It is horrible. NONE of them are what should go in there. Your title might say
(made up)
Disney Playhouse Minnie Mouse Play Set Mickey's House Goofy 2018 Blue Car NEW
Under "character" it wants me to add "Blue" ~ Not Minnie, Mickey or Goofy
Blue might be in the title as this item comes with different colored cars, etc. or the Blue car is the one everyone wants, etc
Under "brand" it puts "Disney" and won't let me change it to "Mattel" - "Disney Playhouse" is the "Series" and searched often.
I finally gave up on some of these. FINE - Disney is the "brand". Just nutz.

The vinyl in my store has been easier to correct with their new listing policies, the much bigger issue I am having is with the attributes in the variations of pics for various products under the same listings, if I don't show a specific pic for each variation and use the default option, when someone scrolls down to see a particular item in the listing it will portray the same pic, that's not good at all, am I supposed to break up my listings and post each one separately, that is crazy, I have so many listings with different variations that require a pic for each item....

'Cause it's going to be on the test and they want to make sure you think you know their answer.

ALBUM NAME: "Singles don't have album names"

I think all the required item specifics is the need for your item to be easily to find on Ebay search.
05-29-2021 03:31 AM
Actually the title is all that should be needed.
If someone is looking for a book & types the title & or author in search most sellers would have that info in their title.
No need to put it again in ebays stupid little drop down boxes!
All that is for is for them to collect info to build a catalog to sell top other companies.
So ebay wants us to do free labor for them which they then sell for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

For album name I would put the A side because chances are that is what the customer will be looking for. If I was being mischievous I would say something like "ebay's Greatest Defects" or "Item specifics, all the best" .

Every one of ,y 45rpm listings has N/A (not applicable) for album title.
Don't they realize we include all this info already and that the longer it takes us to duplicate info, the less items we can list?
I've offered to assist since it's obvious the person designing this mess has no clue about vinyl records.
