Community Team and Ads Team Question About Display Ads Beta

devon@ebay  adsteam@ebay

The information provided with the display ad tool in Seller Hub>Marketing>Advertising Dashboard>Promoted  Display Beta appears to be incorrect.

I opened the tool and then clicked on "Learn More" to, well, learn more.

Here's the relevant part of the pop-up I saw:

mycottagebooksandantiques_0-1714848467672.pngmycottagebooksandantiques_1-1714848508989.png

Now, here's an example of an actual display ad seen in the wild:

mycottagebooksandantiques_2-1714848731130.png

Note that the ad is located beneath the module with information about the host listing's store, feedback, etc. and directly above the interminable promoted listings on the host listing page.  It is NOT where you say it should be. And of course, it takes up more space than the small blue block you show in the information panel. (UNLESS of course, what I'm seeing is not the Display Ad at all, but something completely different?)

Also, the information panel says clicking on the ad will take me to the category page within the store. Which it does do...IF I click the far left section, with the store name. However, IF I click any of the individual items, I am NOT taken to the category page, I'm taken to that item's page, which clearly reduces the value of this as a promotional tool for my store category, and transforms into something more like a standard PLA ad.

So, either what I'm seeing in the wild is something other than the Display Ad, OR you really need to correct the info panel so it conforms with the reality of the current iteration of the ad.

Please advise.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

Thank you for sharing this observation:

"Also, the information panel says clicking on the ad will take me to the category page within the store. Which it does do...IF I click the far left section, with the store name. I am currently running a test with Promoted Display and was curious about how I had more "Clicks" than "Store Views"...now I understand what is happening.

I am also seeing the same placement of the ad as your screenshot "in the wild" shows. I am also seeing the ad displayed near the top of a search results page like this:

I think what you are seeing is something completely different. The graphic they put up with the blue square showing the location seems like a whole new layout of the listing format. If  you are not in the Beta program (however you qualify for that) it does not seem like you would see that format yet. Just my $.02...

Re: Community Team and Ads Team Question About Display Ads Beta

@mcdougle4248  Thanks for the additional info. The additional placement above search results on the search results page is not mentioned anywhere in the info panel, so that's another discrepancy.

I did some googling and found this info on an eBay academy page https://academy.ebay.com/student/path/1579334/activity/2112300#/page/649d1e924096801093badfee

The information is "out there", however, I think we would be better served if the same information was provided in the learn more info panel you show in your screenshot.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

There is information regarding the top of search page placement in the info panel. I had not scrolled down far enough to see it.

Agree. The info from the Academy should be in the info panel.

Re: Community Team and Ads Team Question About Display Ads Beta

@mcdougle4248 I use Google Chrome and my panel ends above that Top of Search info, I can't scroll beyond what I showed in my screen capture. So maybe that's a Chrome issue, I don't know. Thanks again for checking into this.

How is this working as far as sales go?

Big fat goose egg, no sales. The lack of sales could be my fault.  I am testing and have been changing rates and/or keywords every two or three days.

Re: Community Team and Ads Team Question About Display Ads Beta

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques @mcdougle4248  I've never been able to get a straight answer as to what the criteria or difference might be, but I've noted since at least August last year that Promoted Display ads show the ability to appear in above search placement as well as on listing pages for some sellers and others are only shown listing page placement.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Promoted-Listings-Advanced-amp-Promoted-Display-Placements/m-p...

When setting up a campaign some sellers get this (only mentioning listings pages)

And other sellers get this:

I've never tested if the actual placements are different or if it's just the messaging shown on the seller side but have always assumed sellers who get the first one don't have their display ads eligible for top of search....maybe you have to meet sales thresholds, be top rated or something else in order to qualify for both?

@valueaddedresource  Well, maybe we'll get a response here to clear this up.

Interesting placement test results from this evening. I searched for handmade christmas ornaments.

Screenshot from the initial search results page. My ad is displayed at the top of the page.

Screenshot 2024-05-05 202256.jpg

Next, I clicked on the second listing from the top of the same page and saw my ad beneath the feedback, etc module

Screenshot 2024-05-05 203013.jpg

Next, I clicked "Back to search results", found one of my listings, and clicked on it. I was surprised to see my ad on my listing.  I feel that in this scenario I am competing with myself.
