Communication DSR

I have all perfect metrics except for the COMMUNICATION DSR which currently stands at 4.8.

Since ebay sends shipment info when the item ships (right? or do i have that wrong?), what am I supposed to do?  Send a redundant shipping notice and smooch some buns?

When buyers ask questions, I am pretty quick about answering politely, etc., even when they ask stupid questions, so not sure what else is expected by these whiners.  Have half a mind to block these buyers....

Is there a way to customize the shipping notice?

EBay doesn't use DSRs or for that matter Feedback, as a method of measuring a seller's account.

I firmly believe the only reason DSRs are still showing up, is that taking them out would cause some other, more useful, bit of programming to fail.

Nobody ever understood DSRs, including eBay who notoriously told buyers that a normal transaction without problems should get four stars, and to reserve five star ratings for exceptional service.

And then penalized sellers who did not maintain five stars.

Since buyers continue to shop with sellers who have 95% feedback ratings, I don't think buyers pay much attention to Feedback either.

I found an item I was looking for offered by a couple of sellers. I recognized one of the member ids as being a rather challenging participant on the discussion boards. I bought from the other seller, even though the item was a little more expensive.

BTW, even if your story were true, it didnt affect the DSRs of the seller that supposedly offended you on the forums, so not sure what your point was. 

For a minute I thought you were going to say you rated them poorly because of their forum postings...

This is part of your "communication" with your buyers, as well. Maybe this verbiage influences your communication DSR rating:

"ebay nonsense has forced me to move on....closing this store permanently in 30 days. sorry for cancelled auctions...just can t take this rat race anymore...time much better spent on Amazon."

Just to be clear, the passage I quoted was not from the OP's posts. It was from the OP's eBay member profile page--not from the discussion boards. It's there for every buyer to see. I wasn't critiquing the OP's posting style, I was critiquing a public passage right on his/her profile. 

Since the OP's thread is about DSRs and his/her apparent concern over the communication DSR, an example of his/her "communication" is right on topic and totally related.

Buyers aren't likely to notice or care if they do. A lot of things go into the mysterious search placement algorithms, but I would be surprised to find that DSRs are a factor. If they are counted they would have to be just about the lowest contributing factor there is. I think this is a non-issue, personally, with energy better spent worrying about other things.

As a seller, even though it hurts my feelings to see any star markdowns, the communication DSR mark is the one that I value the least. Some buyers need a pen pal. We do not have communication with buyers unless they ask a question. Communication is polite, and concise unless detailed information is needed.

Some buyers may still look at the DSR's, and the other areas could have more of an effect on sales.

For a while the wife's account had 4.9 on all but shipping costs. (most are "free shipping, so not rated)

Every item sold was shipped within the stated 3 day handling time.  Shipping done same, or next business day. Of course eBay will lie  show the buyer expectations of delivery that can not be met, based on historical handling times.

We do not "oversell" the condition of items, but even then a buyer can expect that which is not shown, or stated.

There were no feedback comments that would indicate any issues with items sold/shipped.  As far as I could determine, all 3 happened at about the same time.  I think a buyer may have not understood the star rating system, and hit the wrong end of the scale, or as was posted by someone else, thought 5 stars was only for "exceptional" service.

As far as grading a seller goes, dsrs are currently at the bottom of the food-chain.   There are far greater things to concern yourself with.  That may change again by tomorrow, but right now I would concentrate on other things.

not worring, focusing or having hurt feelings.  Nor do I think it will affect a buyer's decision to buy from me.

The question was posed out of curiosity, and concern over search placement...I do think they (DSRs) affect visibility, and with competition as tight as it is on this and other selling venues, everything counts in large amounts.

 Your DSR's are great! Keep in mind that the star rating thing has changed over the years with the generations. Nowadays not leaving a perfect 5 star rating leaves the perception something was wrong. Turn back the clock to the very beginning of internet ratings or even before the internet when ratings were...eeek..good forbid, posted in a newspaper in print, and that generation rarely left a 5 star rating. 2 was generally considered a fair deal, 3 was a good deal, 4 was a great deal, 5 was deal that went so far beyond the seller came to your house mowed your lawn and cooked you dinner too. It was the above and beyond, could not possibly be better in any way rating.

 So, that being said you have had 20 feedbacks in the past year. You probably have only received DSR's for some of them, point being one 4 rating would put you where you are. IMO most buyers are smart enough to know this.

The only time I notice DSRs is if one or more of them are significantly grayed out, like completely gray. If one doesn't sell often and you get ONE person who gives a '4' because they had a question for the seller and the seller did their job in answering it (which is fine anywhere else but eBay land) , it can really make a difference.
