Re: Come on now

board wouldn't allow me to print the link but you get it right? and why can't I look at my fees?

so the question is this I sold an item for $22.95 - ebay shows sold for $24.33 - which is the tax now I assume - so did I pay commission on the 24.33 or the 22.95  -  pretty sloppy accounting. And since ebay insists now on showing the tax when my 1099 comes will it include this new tax amount?  If I could actually access my fees page I could figure it out but it's broken and yes I already got my invoice for june so that's not it.

  • eBay FVF's is for Product and shipping.  Not taxes.
  • Payment processing is for the total amount which does include tax.

Re: Come on now

no just checked my paypal account again and paypal only charged me the fee on the 22.95 so are you saying that when we are all opted into MP that ebay is going to charge us the fee on the payment + taxes?

Re: Come on now

and ebay charging fvf on an item including tax is probably illegal - like how is the tax submitted able to be fee'd??

boy if so this is all going to be some really messy accounting - I'll have to simply determine which state taxes the highest and deduct that total percentage from my income tax? surely not going to keep track of all the different taxes plus what ebay is charging me extra for the tax?? crazy  So if ebay is only charging me the final value fee based on the actual sale plus shipping - the customer pays the tax - ebay still has to process the entire amount so their eating the extra tax processing fee? oh boy - we will end up paying for that one way or another

I do not have any transactions in paypal to review, but they have always charges the processing fees based on the total amount.

I use eBay MP and they charge the processing fee based on the total that is being charged.

"I use eBay MP and they charge the processing fee based on the total that is being charged."

which does NOT include the taxes? Just want to be perfectly clear - still not in MP yet on my end.

what a quagmire

the government is really a day late and a dollar short on this one as usual.  The big box guys have been paying their taxes (hopefully) all along.  Can you imagine how much it will cost each state to audit each of millions of small sellers who sell perhaps 3-4 things to their state each year? ridiculous

Case in point and this one will make you laugh - I sold something in my state last year to one gal.  Twice. Total taxes owed on $20 retail.  I actually get up one day - drive over to the state tax bureau. Tell the lady I'd like to pay the tax on the $20 which amounts to $1.65. This is what she tells me. You have to go upstairs - get your secretary of state license ($500 per year) get the certificate - come back here and we can process your tax.

I ask her if she's drunk - no she replies - ok - I'm going home - come and get me - so much for trying to do the right thing.

Long and short of it is I just want to know exactly what's coming down the road for me so I can start adjusting my prices now.

Re: Come on now

If you are looking at the sold information under the sales section of the new seller hub it is displaying the total purchase  price the buyer paid for the item or items. This will include sales tax and the shipping cost. Unfortunately in this section ebay is not offering a total on the actual amount you received or get to keep from the buyer. The really annoying thing is they are including shipping cost paid by the buyer as a selling fee ( which it is not ). To get the actual amount you received from a single sale you have to go to the orders section and review each sale individually.  For multiple purchases if you need to determine how much a buyer paid for shipping to issue a partial refund for the difference in shipping cost you most of the time you will now have to add up the total amount the buyer paid fo all of the items then subtract the cost of the items. If you do want to see what your current sales are for the month the old selling page will have this information in the reminders section and on the left side if you scroll down you can find the total sales for the last 60 days. These are still populating the actual sales information and do not include the cost of shipping which can be helpful if you want to know how you are really doing for the month. To get to the old selling page go to the seller hub and scroll down. On the left side under selling tools there is a link that says, "View My eBay Selling" click it and it will take you to the old selling page. Once there book mark it for easy access as some of the information is quite useful if you are a seller actually selling items you have on hand rather than drop shipping.

Actually this isn't quite that cut & dried these days.

If the SELLER was charged Sales Tax then yes it would be included in the processing fee, but if the ST is the ST that ebay is now obligated to collect then PP will not charge a fee for processing that ST as the Sales Tax was paid to ebay NOT the seller.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.
