My buyer opened a return for an item. She stated that I sent the incorrect item, but actually I did send what she ordered. After pointing this out to her, she decided she would prefer to keep the item rather than return it. I asked her to close the return and she said she can't figure out to do this. What can I do to make sure I don't get a defect?

You don't need to do anything!
The return request will close out on it's own and there is NEVER a defect for a return regardless of the reason unless you attempt to decline it and eBay decides against you.
Into your life it will creep

Thanks. My concern is that ebay specifically states if I don't respond to the return request, my account could be compromised. Just concerned if for some reason she changes her mind this could be a problem.

She won't be able to reopen the request.

It’s not closed
it isn’t even responded to yet by the seller
I would be concerned also
as it is a not as described return
and eBay is giving the respond by date , even if the buyer doesn’t ask ebay to step in it’s something I would prefer the buyer close .
Ask them to go into the return case and there is a button to close the return .

Put a message in the return request* fully stating your position and communication to date, so you are on record in case the buyer does an end run. 1) state it isn't the wrong item and why; 2) state buyer agreed (in messages or where ever) it isn't the wrong item; and 3) state buyer agreed to close but has been unable to figured out how to close it.
(With the "close return" button being sort of obvious on the buyer's screen, I would view "can't figure it out" to be an indication that an end run is coming.)
* Among the choices given, you are "sending the buyer a message", but write the message as if you are talking to ebay.

Thanks, this is helpful and what I will do. The buyer said she couldn't close it because she was using a guest account, so I don't know things look different on their end.

Thanks, will do this too (since I think I may not have luck in getting her to close the return herself)
