Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

Has anyone seen this new layout for listings? I have a button on my last listing called 'click button to view entire description'.

There is a completely blank screen unless one clicks that button. There is NO description of the item for sale until you click this button and then the description opens in a separate window.

What is this all about - an I in a test group?

NO it hasn't. I was talking about the issue with phone users seeing free shipping where it's not offered. That has NOT been fixed

You were responding to this post - https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Click-to-view-entire-descripton-What-the-heck/m-p/23622525/hig...

That post was specifically about a comment on the February 4 Weekly Chat which was about an issue that came up that morning, and was resolved that same day.

If you are talking about a separate issue, then please do not respond to a post discussing an issue that is not related to the one you are having. I can only read the question in the context of the conversation. If it is a new issue, you can simply hit the "Reply" button at the top of the page and it will start a new conversation within this thread. Thanks.

I'm still waiting for someone/anyone to show me where I was disingenuous by linking to a post in a Weekly Chat form the past few weeks where we discussed this specific issue. I'll check back again later to see if they were able to back up their accusation.

Thanks, Jeff. Are you saying you want something more recent?  From my experience the "board" search is not so hot. I will do my best.  I appreciate your response.

I'm looking for the backup to the accusation that "it's been brought up in every Weekly Chat for about a year now" and that "it's disingenuous of Jeff to state otherwise." See https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Click-to-view-entire-descripton-What-the-heck/m-p/23621864/highlight/true#M444758 for details.

So, I'd like to see a link to a Weekly Chat from the past few weeks where this issue was brought up. I didn't recall this particular issue, so I'm looking forward to reminding myself about it from posts in recent Chats. The link to the Chats is https://community.ebay.com/t5/Weekly-Chat-with-eBay-Staff/bd-p/weekly-chat

Thanks.

I don't see anything about an app issue with free shipping on that thread. Which specific post are you referring to?

If it's post #4, that was a one-day issue that we resolved that day. Is that the issue you think has been reported every week for a year?

I don't believe the issue is exactly when or where the free shipping "glitch" was mentioned.

It has been mentioned countless times on many boards and within many threads on a fairly regular basis.

This issue has been adversely affecting many sellers for well over a year or more that I am aware of.:(

Buyer sees one thing "free ship", while the actual listing as input by the seller when created did indeed have shipping charges.

Bottom line, That is the problem facing sellers.

Management has been well aware of it on many threads, that we were told that they do read.

Phone calls to CS should also show that this issue is a long standing problem.

I personally know several sellers that could not convince a CSR to remove FB when the issue was clearly related to the free shipping *glitch"

I just do not want to see more of the same unnecessary problems due to some program *fiddling* with descriptions that should be upfront & center for buyers to easily access.

Not worth it to me to list, only to have my work altered by "beta testing" and my reputation as a seller possibly suffer as a result.

:(:(

I've reported it to the Mobile team. It would be a big help for anyone who sees these types of issues to report them immediately to CS with as much detail as you can provide (item number, date/time, etc.) so the issue can be investigated.

I shop on line a lot and it's quite common to have a button to see the full description. It makes pages load much faster.

EBAY JEFF:  If you visit this thread again would you please provide some insight?

If buyers do not click to read the description will said buyers lose their ability to file SNAD's against the sellers?  In other words, if they try to file a case against a seller but did not read the description, the SNAD option will not appear and they would have to choose another reason to return the purchase?

How will this format handle listings where the seller offers a "percentage off 2 or more items" or "free shipping with a $$ purchase" promotions?  I believe this information appears at the top of the item description.  Will sellers have to include promotions in listing titles or pay for sub-titles in order to be seen?

We already pack as much info in item specifics as we can and ocassionaly run out of alloted space for the item specifics area.

Buyers will still be able to file SNADs, but if the reason for the SNAD is an issue disclosed in the description, the feedback will be removed and the seller will not lose any standing because of it.

The operation of the listing has not changed. If a seller is using the managed promotions or sales maximizer to offer discounts, those settings will still apply. Details on how to do this are at http://pages.ebay.com/specialoffers/tutorial.html

The words I bolded give me the impression ebay has made up its mind that this "test" will stay. Otherwise I'd think you'd say "buyers would" and "the operation of the listing would not change". Will and has not sound like a done deal.

Will we be reimbursed for our shipping costs and wasted time as well?

Sorry Jeff, my question about promotions probably should have been better written.

In the current PC format when I click on a listing as a buyer any special discount or shipping offer is noted right at the top of the description.  For a buyer in the beta test do they have to click the description button before they can be seen - as part of the second page when they click read description?  Or do these offers appear on the first screen seen on a beta test listing?  Apparently my seller account is not part of the test as all listings appear as normal to me with the description on one page.

Today I've been greeted with a lot of questions, the answer to which is in the description. Really enjoying this waste of my Friday evening already, thanks eBay.

Look at the bright side (LOL)....at least if you get a low DSR in communication (because you politely answer questions instead of ignoring them) it won't count against your seller performance. Be advised that may change without notice and bad scores can become retroactive at any time. .....

Anyone remember the media category fiasco about 3 years back?

As I recall, there were at least 13 countries where buyers were blocked from purchasing books, records, etc. from US sellers for about six months. There was endless speculation about some nefarious eBay plot such as an attempt to force all US sellers to offer the Global Shipping Program (which didn't ever override the block) & only vague comments about customs requirements from "unofficial sources", never an  eBay posting.

One day the block was removed, still no explanation, and I predict, this too shall pass. I have empathy for those affected & fortunately my sky isn't falling (at least not yet Smiley Happy

I can't recall exact details but it seems to me I remember some other "tests" they've tried that were failures and they sacked the idea.  Hoping, hoping this will be another one!

But, how much damage is being done to a seller's reputation meanwhile, and the buyer may never return because they think we are too lazy to give a full description?

Seriously ebay? Seriously? So we pay big money for our listings in fees only to have them used as guinea pig experiments without our consent? I should be surprised but I am not.

We don't exactly pay "big" money for fees and if eBAY did everything with "our" consent, then nothing would change.   eBAY would not keep up with eCOMMERCE trends, and would have failed a long time ago.

Having said that, I'm hoping the feedback from this test will make eBAY reconsider this feature for reasons said many times and many ways here and through the give us feedback tab.

But if it were to be implemented, I suggest that the button lettering be something obvious like with BLINKING RED TEXT or maybe put it as a TAB vs. a button.

I personally stopped looking to buy today because it was extremely annoying to have to find the button that is now required to read the description, click on the button to read the description by snippets and scroll,  then click the close the button.   I like to look, read, decide.

This actually will be better for me because it aggrevates me too much to do everything now required.   Buying should be a pleasant experience; and it is not.

If this is for mobile benefit, then add the feature to the lame mobile app.   But let us laptop, tablet, phone, and pc users (all who prefer the classic site) keep the full description with the listing.   Please.

I don't need to buy on ebay.   I just like to buy on ebay.    Not so much anymore....  Good for my purse...
