Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

Has anyone seen this new layout for listings? I have a button on my last listing called 'click button to view entire description'.

There is a completely blank screen unless one clicks that button. There is NO description of the item for sale until you click this button and then the description opens in a separate window.

What is this all about - an I in a test group?

Yes, we are currently conducting a temporary test that is focused on simplifying and improving the buying experience. The experience you are seeing is how all buyers are currently accessing item descriptions when they use our mobile apps. We are exploring buyer experiences when the buying process is consistent across all devices and screens.

You mean the same app that show Free Shipping on listings with shipping charged? The app that does't show any relevant info until you click stupid buttons? The app that has BID/BIN without requiring the user to even CLICK on description or to show more photos?

That app?

In 40+ years of programming everything you can imagine any way possible, this change is the one that would put me over the top where I would recommend firing the entire IT staff from the top down and starting fresh.

I'm not aware of the Free Shipping issue you're describing. I know there was an issue last week that we corrected. Is that the issue you're describing. Is it still happening to anyone?

The app showing free shipping when the seller charges for shipping has been around pretty much since the app came out.

And you can easily find the many threads about it.

Sellers are already taking advantage of this as I found out today. Saw a listing showing a 6-foot tall Coke bottle sign for $699 Buy-it-Now. It was only after I discovered the "full description" button that I realized this was actually an 18" tall wall plaque sign worth about $10 (seller purposely manipulated photo to make sign look giant). If eBay lets sellers "hide" their descriptions like this there's going to be a large increase in the number of disputes filed against sellers.

And here we go...

I can just picture Mr. Burns at eBay HQ reading posts like this, rubbing his hands, and saying "Excellent".

I think it's been brought up in every Weekly Chat for about a year now.

Re: Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

Yes, I would rather all my buyers opt out of this test... and if it helps just keep me in the test, I don't care as long as my buyers don't see it. Doubt ebay can make that happen though.

I just talked to ebay CS Selling Dept and the guy said I was only the 2nd person who called about this. More people need to give ebay their feedback, and there's currently minimal call wait time.

How long will this test run for? Hopefully it won't be as long as the current "buyers can't get negatives" test that has been going on about 7 years now, hahahaha!

It's a test. We'll see if having a consistent experience between the platforms has any impact or not.

What sort of "impact" are you looking for?  What exactly are you trying to measure?

Increase/decrease in sales?

Increase in buyerbacking out of a listing?

Perhaps this test is like a new car warranty. It'll end when eBay revenue drops by a hundred million dollars or the seller base decreases by a hundred thousand users, whichever comes first.

Disruptive innovation at its finest.

Except sellers can't close their accounts until at least 180 days after the last sale, so yes, they will probably say - "See - no seller closed their accounts because of this".

The test is from the buyer's perspective, not the seller's. Your listings may be part of the test for some of your shoppers, but not with all of them.

That's good to know. As a seller some of my shoppers might still be able to see my description.  For some reason this does not insprire confidence.

They'll all be able to see your description. The issue is whether that description is viewable on the view item page by default or if you have to click on a link to see the description. Either way, the description is viewable by all buyers.

Not true. Most of my listings logged in as seller and logged out were showing the hideous non existent description tab with the hideous tiny pop up window with the tiny slit to navigate the scroll bar to red the description. Categories gutted. I just checked with a desktop and my listings looked normal.(maybe my shrieking on every listing feedback "what do you think" got me out). Will now look on laptop with Firefox to see if my listings are all coming up with the description front and center. Have been talking to friends who buy on eBay and no one wants to click on another tab to see a description. Neither do I as a buyer. As a seller, this is simply the worst case scenario. Seriously thinking of pulling the plug if this becomes the standard. NO ONE has time nor interest to scroll and hunt for a link to a description, THEN have to navigate the tiny scroll bar and description slit to read. LET THE BUYERS AT THE DESCRIPTION!!  I guess someone has to justify their paycheck at eBay but it shouldn't be at the expense of the sellers, nor the buyers. I thought this was all about making money and having happy customers.who value their time while shopping. Bad move eBay!

Except half of them seem to have a hard enough time reading the description as it is.  Adding an obstacle isn't going to improve that situation.

This is seriously stupid.  It's, by far, the worse idea eBay has come up with in awhile (and they've come up with some pretty terrible ideas, mind you).  Combine this with how easy it is for a buyer to open a case unintentionally now (or "request" as you're calling them) and every other sale is going to be an SNAD for anyone not selling brand new items.

How detached from reality are you people?

Yes, it has. It's disingenuous of Jeff to state otherwise.

It doesn't matter what YOU see when you look at your own listings. What matters is what a prospective bidder or buyer sees. What matters is what view ebay allows the prospective buyer to see.

Re: Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

One more note:

I already had one buyer ask me where is my description for an item he was really interested in. I then asked him if they clicked on the "Full Item Description". He said he thought that WAS the item description, until I told him to click on it. There's no way to know that's a link since it doesn't change color when you mouse over, and there's no pop-up instruction to click to see description.

Nowhere does it say "Click Here For Full Item Description". It just said "Full Item Description".

If anyone had actual English grammar knowledge, they would know that it's an incomplete meaningless statement, not an instruction to act.

Clear your cookies and/or try a different browser or device. The test is assigned randomly, so by coming to the site fresh may move you into a non-test group.

And how will all the buyers that come to eBay know to this, and how to do this?

Re: Click to view entire descripton??? What the heck???

All my listings are in this beta, no one told me this was going on until i noticed from my buyer account, and that to is in the beta.

But when i look at my own listings they look normal.

On my buyer account this has been going on for weeks.  Thought sellers were being lazy, i passed up items because of it.

AND didnt buy items because of it.

So, this is costing me money and business.  Someones idea, but do i see this idea on high volume sellers?  No.  They dont care how

much this will cost me.  I think we should all ask for our fees back during this test.  Any final value fees etc...this is a big time money

loser.  I have already had 4 buyers and myself not buy because of not noticing the link.

Maybe that is the "impact" they are trying to measure? Who leaves first?

Sorry, I don't know the specific measures of this test.

I want confirmation that i have been opted out of this test Jeff.
