Has anyone seen this new layout for listings? I have a button on my last listing called 'click button to view entire description'.
There is a completely blank screen unless one clicks that button. There is NO description of the item for sale until you click this button and then the description opens in a separate window.
What is this all about - an I in a test group?

Neetmok, you hit the nail on the head. Perfect post. And eBay simply doesn't give a bovine defecation. It is all to improve the buying experience. They continue to dumb down the system in a stellar effort to bring the experience down to the level of what they perceive their buyer's mentality to be.

Saw a post many pages back that suggested to show, as the second photo, a message to PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION. I have at times, put in every photo that I take, a sign that says the same thing, "PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION". Guess I have to start doing so again.

I fail to see how finding out it's not what you wanted AFTER you get it is a better than knowing before you buy.
It doesn't simplify customer service or returns either. They will increase, not decrease.
ebay doesn't comprehend the functions of "simplify" or "improve." So they substitute "destroy" and "drive customers away."

This is terrble. Have spent years of getting my listings to flow and fit typical screens, and now, even after clicking tab to see description, user can only see a tiny bit at a time. Totally hate this.
Also, the fact the eBay did this without warning sellers upsets me a lot. It really can affect the way your items appeal to users, and can affect one's business a lot.
While this may work for selling 'stock' items, it especially is not good if you sell hand made items, art, or collectibles, where people want to know lots of information, and even something about the seller.
Not sure what triggers it. If I log into our items from our Ipad or two apple desktops, this new tab is not there. But if I log in from our laptop, have to use the tab.
And now I maybe know why our sales have dropped in the past week and half. It look like there are no item descriptions.

I'm afraid regardless of the weekly chat being cancelled, we would be most probably be offered no additional information other then what Jeff has already provided earlier in this thread. I like others find it quite alarming and insulting that eBay would undertake such a "test" that has undoubtedly affected many sales negatively and possibly caused confusion on a buyers part due to lack of description being readily apparent, and not even think to let sellers know of this, only to "uncover" it for themselves.
I personally think and feel it speaks volumes as to what eBays current culture and attitude towards their sellers stand. After the last year and all of the challenges from the eBay Hack, Spring and Fall updates and drastic changes to policy, the google debacle, eBay/Paypal split announcement, CEO change of guards......just to name A FEW .........one might have hoped that 2015 would start out with a more positive attitude from eBay towards their sellers. It is apparent nothing has changed on that front and we will still be treated as the "noise" we are believed to be.......... I think that should tell us everything we need to know for those that were counting on some "hope & change"...........

Not sure why that would matter - anyone can post 'Call our excellent CS' and 'I already answered that - end of story'.

Weighing in here -- this new "feature" is obnoxious in the extreme. I sell electronic collectibles that require a description to explain what systems they work for (not all are compatible universally across a single system -- sort of like the difference between a Game Boy game and a Nintendo DS game). My buyers require this description information if they're not 100% familiar with every single variance between the products I sell. If it's implemented, this should be something buyers choose to turn on in their profile settings rather than something that's shoved onto the PC/desktop users to make the experience feel more like the mobile site.

Have you all noticed how many international sellers are now listing items as New, but then saying in the description that they are gently used or preowned? Perhaps that would cause more SNADS, that again, are not covered by teh ebay MBG. Wonder what would happen if that was us?

Just FYI that our scheduling conflicts have been resolved, so we will be having the Weekly Chat this week as originally planned. The link to this week's chat is http://community.ebay.com/t5/Weekly-Chat-with-eBay-Staff/Weekly-Chat-with-the-eBay-Community-Februar...

Instead of packaging and shipping I just read all the humorous comments on ecommercebytes.com
it is very clear that eBay employees don't ever sell anything on eBay and, on a lighter note...I have been told by Buyers that buyers don't even read our descriptions since the descriptions are so far down the page. 😛

I love the idea of inserting the last photo with Please click button not labeled properly by ebay below to see my whole "written for the good buyer experience" description. My description is worth reading, as I did it according to ebay guidelines. I followed the messages that they keep sending me to write a clear and concise description, I include all details, like they told me to. Now they are saying that unless they educate the buyer to click on a button that does NOT say "CLICK HERE TO READ full description", which we know they will never do, the buyer will never get to read what ebay told me to write.
Listings with text in the gallery photo are supposed to be lowered in search results. Well that won't make much of a difference, can't get much lower. Wouldn't one wonder why ebay tells us to write great descriptions? Why they would then not at least tell the buyer "CLICK HERE FOR" full description?
The mentality of the buyer that ebay must be coveting perceived by them must be either extraordinary, or clueless. To give a buyer a button to see the description that they clicked on the listing, hopefully to see, is crazy.
It takes the average person hours to maneuver through all the cheap counterfeit junk and the other totally irrelevant stuff that ebay SAYS you shuold see based on YOUR search, which PROVES that they don't really care if you get what you actually wanted. THEN they tell you Oh, we took the description away so you can think badly of the seller that didn't bother to write one.
To do this, one would think the button should at least read "Click here to read Seller's Full Description". Logic does not stick to this wall, never has.

All you need is a little note in each photo you use, that says, Please click on the little button labeled "Full Description" to see the great, detailed details about this item for sale." That is allowed and would be a great solution to this new obstacle.

The logical solution is to get rid of the obstacle.
Thank God I haven't been opted in and can actually see the desciption when I click on the listing - just like it's supposed to work in the real world.
