Christmas season sales up or down?

HOW ARE YOUR SALES DOING THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON? UP 👍OR DOWN👎? DO YOU AGREE THAT EBAY SHOULD DO AN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN LIKE ETSY. (WONDERFUL COMMERCIALS! IN FACT I SHOPPED THERE FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS!)

Christmas season sales up or down?

Etsy has had coupon codes for years and when I was selling there I used them liberally.

I doubt I got a single sale from them.

ETA: Despite the fact that I had a number of repeat buyers.

Literally selling more than I sold all year. (not that my sales were very strong, to begin with)

I think up or down depends on your niche

Your statement “I have 578 listings right now, and I am getting a lousy 20 to 30 views a day. All 578 of those listings are all promoted, get no views.” Is contradictory, first you say you have views then you say you don’t.

My sales are steady.
I don’t know anything about Etsy or its advertising as I don’t get commercials.

@inhawaii  Aloha! I was just over there and saw some of your products in person!

I've closed shop until mid-January - this hasn't been a great time for pre-owned clothing for some years. It used to be, but now everyone is selling online it's not worth the trouble.  Geez - on Posh they have live shows basically begging you to take product off their hands.

Dealz is almost unbelievable around.  I'm not much the holidazed shopper and generally recall the 30-40% off types of blowout sales but this year 60%, 70% which is what the retail associations were pretty much saying.  Wonder if the holiday season going to finally clear excess Covid inventories or how much sit out there in the inflationary arena of delist/surplus.

Funny and not ran into a fella other day who sold online and also at seasonal pretty big flea market up this way.  He'd do retro toys, videos, sort of mish mosh.  I asked him how flea market went and he told me he literally dumped everything and now is doing cheap pre-owned car tires and killing it.

He's selling DVD's.  Its a DOA market.  88% of Americans (9 in 10) have streaming devices or TV's in house now.  No, I didn't pull that out of thin air, its what the industry is saying.  1.8 Billion households globally are streaming content.  We've three Best Buys in the area, wont find a single one who has more than 100 Blu-ray/dvd's in stock of course those are new releases.  Even the Walmarts, less than 100 blu-rays and they've a gondola display, maybe 200 DVD's.  Goodwills here are inundated with them as they get donated and I'm constantly seeing em' bulked out on Marketplace.  500 new sealed DVD's for $250/$300.

Down, since Thanksgiving something has been off with search. I have found that personally as I was shopping on eBay for the Holidays.  We are still listing and hopeful for a pick up. But, we know money is tight for a lot of households.  Looking at other ideas for 2024.

Merry Christmas everyone.

VERY very slow.  I've been selling since 2000, mainly collectibles.  Items that used to sell quickly, are not selling at all.  Views are few.....pitiful.   I think this has many causes.  The marketplace is changing due to demographics and I believe that younger people are not as much interested in antique items.    But I do believe that the declining economy is a greater cause.   Massive inflation is the culprit.    I don't see this improving with the vast overspending by our irresponsible leaders....the ones who we elect.  😞

Am closing up shop at the end of this year.  Selling on Ebay was a lot of fun when it began......not so much now.  Not worth the effort.

There's nothing contradictory about my statement, the majority of my listings are not getting any views.

DVD's are not dead, far from it. There are still billions of DVD players in America, they aren't disappearing anytime soon. In fact, I have over 100 people watching my DVD's right now.

Streaming is not a threat either. The average consumer cannot afford to subscribe to dozens of streaming services.

Likewise, a lot of movies that are available on DVD and VHS are not available thru any of the streaming platforms. Also, collectors arent looking to stream, they want the physical media.

VHS still sell too. I just sold a VHS movie this morning.

Music CD's still sell as well.

At the end of this holiday selling season, Best Buy will no longer sell DVDs and Bluray.

Toy sales are off 8% from last year and Hasbro just announced a major layoff.

Temu is eating the lunch of other low end clothing sellers.

Vinyl sales continue to out pace CD sales.

If any of these are the items you sell, you are being affected.

Electronics prices in stores are reflecting the deflation in China. Much used electronics is not worth the cost of shipping, and certainly not the even a low price, a profit and shipping.

I can buy a TV with a video port for less than a computer monitor. Same specs when used as a monitor.

I bought three pieces of artist designed jewelry on invaluable last night for less than one piece by the same artist is going for on Ebay. And the sellers on Ebay are all selling at the same price. These were made in 1984-1991 by a reasonably well known artist.

You cannot sell on Ebay any more without being conscious of the rest of the world.

My sales this month seem to be stuck at my lowest price tier. That became clear with my overnight orders.

Since I always have more that I could list, I am torn between listing the good stuff and listing the cheap stuff.

glorybells,

For what it's worth, many people, like myself are allergic to nickel. You might want to consider earring wires that are silver plated over copper core.

Tons of holiday craft shows going on across the country that began in earnest in early November.  Lots of competition for your hand made items right now.

Hope your sales improve soon.

The eBay adverts that turn up on my FaceBook page are coming more often. I get one about every second day now.

If you would like to see some of them, they also appear on eBay's FB page.  They seem to cover  a spectrum of products.
