I have noticed that tons of sellers are putting unknown in their item specifics for made in, I think it's pretty ridiculous when most everything is made in China & customers know that, But to put unknown when it states it right on the package is a bit ridiculous

The customs departments in other countries may care. Even if I were listing with EIS I would that information on the listing that it is easily available to the EIS when they fill out the customs form.
Your items may not qualify but some items do qualify as duty free if they are made in specific countries.

It can be confusing sometimes.
Made in China...does that mean People's Republic of China or Republic of China...two different countries?
And then there's Hong Kong which is now considered a part of China but wasn't a part of China before.
Some sellers might want to play it safe.

All generalities are bad - even this one.
If it says so right on the package you have a valid point. BUT a lot of the items I sell have no indication as to where they are made - license plates, belt buckles and hat pins especially which are bulk packed to the distributor, and loose packed to me.
Most everything I SELL may not be made in China. A lot of my products are made in Bangladesh (baseball caps), Vietnam (wood key rings) Taiwan (figurines) Africa in general (tribal masks) etc.

You expect me to actually take the time to look at the package AND enter that information into the listing's item specs? Come on, I'm happy to copy someone else's listing and just trust that they did it right 😂 😂
Pro tip: Only copy (click 'Sell Similar' on) sold listings, not active listings ... if the item sold, you can trust it was a good listing 😉
You're seriously making me want to enter outlandish info in that section.

If it is important for the potential buyer, they can ask the seller where the product was made. Some people want to know, because they may not want an item from China, other country, or USA, who knows what the buyer is looking for exactly. In some industries, knowing where the item is made is very important, because some industries don't accept parts from some countries.

I don't waste my time filling this field out unless the answer is America. Otherwise who cares?

I have some Beatle memorabilia from India from their visits in 1966 and 1968, the products were made in Tibet, Tibet sounds fairly cool and exotic, ebay has no allocation for Tibet, given that it is under Chinese control, the last name I need on Beatle memorabilia is junky China , I can only leave it blank and explain in the description,
Tibet good, China bad.

In my business it can make a definite difference.
"America" covers a rather wide swathe, though. 😉

If an item is unmarked and looks cheap I say the made in China sticker must have fallen off.

Ebay's owner-oligarch, Pierre Omidyar, will do as he's told by China, and that is to make Tibet a memory, nothing to do with stamping out of a culture, nothing to do with Human Rights

Omidyar is only in an emeritus position on eBay's board and has nothing to do with China's renaming parts of Tibet.

Your answer just shows another set of problems!

Yes you should take the actual time to fill it in, Instead of taking the cheap way out by copying someone else's work, That creates even more problems with search as well, Because if someone messed up & you don't check or don't care your just continuing to input the same incorrect info.
