I am so not liking the fact that EBay is automatically taking money out of proceeds for charity without my permission! This starts in Nov and I am taking my listing down because of it. It’s bad enough with all the other fees a seller has to pay, now this!! Not happy! 😞

@peggyannorr

If you have never selected to donate part of your proceeds to charity, I think something else might be going on.

On the checkout page for a buyer eBay DOES advertise various Charities and asks the BUYER if they would like to donate.  You, of course, have nothing to do with this and would never know because you don't really get to see what a buyer sees on the checkout page for your listing anyway.

The buyer chooses to donate or not in these instances.  Is eBay somehow recording this on your seller page.  Sort of like they do with the taxes the buyer pays that you never get but have to pay fees on?  Don't know how that money is collected from a buyer with Managed Payments in the mix anyway.

Check the order details again and see if it was a buyer donation that was added to your proceeds then immediately removed.

Are you saying that eBay is deducting something you did NOT authorize?

I am thinking this is a good thing. I have never used the charity option myself, but I always assumed when something sold the charity donation was transferred to the charity by ebay. I think you may be referring to the announcement that sellers can no longer transfer the donation to charity themselves, only ebay can. At least that's how read it. More honest and above board. I wish it was a requirement to identify the charity the seller's money goes to. Might be a charity I don't approve of.

Apparently EBay is going to start taking out a percentage for charity without our permission in Nov. I did not give them permission to do such! Their fees are bad enough as it is!

@peggyannorr

Now I see where you're coming from. As noted by @lepke1979, that will only apply to listings where you've selected a Charity. I don't do that through eBay, so it wouldn't apply to me.

Follow the great instructions here to make sure this won't affect your future listings. Good luck.

Unless it changed. It should say what charity the money goes to in the listing. And what percentage.

That's what I thought too.  Is it currently just on the honor system as to whether the seller sends in the donation?

Thank you for the compliment, but it was just a guess on my part.  Actually, I am an OLDER senior citizen, card carrying tin foil hat wearer!!!!   LOL..

Should my supposition turn out to be correct, however, my next question would be if eBay charged fees to the seller on that donation under the old "final value fees are assessed on the total the buyer pays" scenario.  LOLOLOLOL.....maybe our OP will return, and this can be sorted out.

Mine used to come out automatically through paypal and back up funding once a month. I never sent them in on my own.
