Chargeback

So I had my biggest loss ever this week on ebay made possible by MP.

A buyer purchased an item from me in mid January. He never onced asked to return or stated a problem with the item. In Late April he opens a chargeback for INAD, totally fictitious.

I was assured by anchor store CSR's I would be fine appealing the case because I was protected by seller protection and the buyer was obviously scamming.

Yesterday I get an email I lost the case and they were taking $1500 from my bank account.

I have called 3 times and spoken to 7 CSR's, mostly in MP, each telling me I have no protection because I could have sent the buyer a different item. Also, he does not have to return my item and ebay is keeping their fees.

I asked 20 years with ebay paying hundreds of thousands in fees and you cant do a thing for me, when PP would have at least made them return the item.  I was told by one MP CSR that ebay can't match what PP provided because PP is a unique situation and actually admitted moving forward I will likely lose every chargeback someone makes. They refused to give any details on the decision or why they made it just that each case is unique.

Needless to say very demoralizing and I will have to really look to speed up my movement away from ebay. In 20 + years with PP I had 3, maybe 4 disputes which PP closed and in one case made the buyer return my item.  In 8 months in MP I have had 2, one because ebay never refunded the buyer on a cancellation the buyer requested and I refunded!

Now out  1500 and the money I had in the item. Sux

No3, man did you even read OP? I'm sorry if I'm coming off a little grumpy but this is starting to get real. How is ebay NOT even supporting their sellers. They're just bending over to the chargebacks. Even if the sellers have proof of shipping.

Settle down, my response was to other posters who seem to be thinking along different lines. I counted 6 posters who are clearly talking about PP or MBG -

and this was one of yours:

""Yup these scammers wait for the 30 day window to close and baamam file a chargeback!! ""

You don't need to wait 30 days to file a chargeback

"You don't need to wait 30 days to file a chargeback" Yeah we know that BUT if you wait until after 30 days and open a chargeback  ebay is just simply refunding buyers and sellers are loosing their items.

The difference is with PP, you may lose the chargeback, but they would insist your item be returned before the funds were reimbursed.

With MP I was told ebay has no power to make them return the item, only the power to steal my $1500.

Losing a chargeback with PP was refunding the money=getting back my item.

Chargeback

I get anchor store CSR which are generally US based. They are well rehearsed and told not to give an inch.

They also refuse to clarify any policy and give info on how a decision was reached.

I would love to block the transaction, but I I want to continue selling ebay will get the money one way or the other...the beauty of MP.

Chargeback

We lost every chargeback which was opened more than 2 months after the item was purchased.  Basically our items were stolen. The ones we won were open within 30 days. There is NO seller protection after 30 days.

Chargeback

Thanks Pika,

One question I presented, and we were told that MP would give so much more protection than PP.

Why are sellers even involved in a CB??

Ebay is the merchant of record, they tell me the item has been paid for, ship it, Ayden processes the money which goes back to ebay to disburse, then ebay pays seller.

So we have nothing to do with the money until ebay decides to pay us, Ayden has no idea who we are, ebay is their customer.....until a chargeback takes place, then we are the merchant responsible for the funds.

MP is all about reaping rewards and ebay suffering no consequences.

Chargeback

My biggest fear as well, it's like an epidemic with MP.

One funny thing I asked CSR so you're telling me I can buy a $5000 item on ebay, wait 5 months and do a CB, get it for free?  He then tried to give me a morality lesson. I was like you gotta be kidding me??

Perhaps the most corrupt company out there telling me I should not do what you just did to me.

One thing he did say after two chargebacks they will review a buyers account!!! After 2???

I've made thousands of CC purchases in my life and never attempted one CB. Ebay will think about looking into it after a buyer makes 2, you can't make this stuff up.

Yeah and further, whomever is going to be OUT the money should be part of the arbitration process.

If eBay is going to cover those losses- fine, eBay gets to battle the chargeback BUT

If the individual seller is going to be out money AND item we should be allowed to defend ourselves and prove our case..

It all smells bad to me..

For $1500. I would be tempted to get on a plane, knock at the buyers door and request my item back.

Not that I'm encouraging that of course but that's a BIG loss to any size selling business.

They told me I should upload a picture in the response showing the item I sent the guy.

By the time he opened the CB the listing was so old it was not on eBay anymore!!!

Instead I sent a typed response that a CSR advised me what to say.

Then one guy told me one of the reasons I likely lost was because I didn't provide a picture of the item!!!

Yeah looks like its time to buy a couple of Rolex's 😂. What a joke of a response by ebay.  Ebay should be defending its sellers with proof of shipping, the response you got from them is horrible. A couple more chargeback losses and I'm outta here. Don't get me wrong I used to love ebay but this kind of theft is very very serious and if ebay hasn't got my back then......

Absolutely right, and best part I was told all along I could appeal the case regardless of the decision, and the ebay protections would step in.

Now being told that there is no appeal process for a case like this, the decision is final.

When I ask what is "a case like this", they give no answer, they make it up as they go along.

One funny response is I told a gal yesterday in MP department that I had been told all along I would have ebay protection, she said that was irresponsible of ebay employees to tell me I was protected, she would pass that on so they could be corrected, there is no protection for a seller on ebay....at least she was being honest.

In reading back through this I don't see if you have reached out to eBay via their Facebook Business page.  I know it seems silly and counterproductive but...

Many sellers have had decent CS there and the reps seem to have some knowledge and a little authority to take action.

Now I don't know that they can reverse a CB decision but I darn sure would not give up until all avenues were exhausted..

Give it a go, if you haven't already.
