So I had my biggest loss ever this week on ebay made possible by MP.
A buyer purchased an item from me in mid January. He never onced asked to return or stated a problem with the item. In Late April he opens a chargeback for INAD, totally fictitious.
I was assured by anchor store CSR's I would be fine appealing the case because I was protected by seller protection and the buyer was obviously scamming.
Yesterday I get an email I lost the case and they were taking $1500 from my bank account.
I have called 3 times and spoken to 7 CSR's, mostly in MP, each telling me I have no protection because I could have sent the buyer a different item. Also, he does not have to return my item and ebay is keeping their fees.
I asked 20 years with ebay paying hundreds of thousands in fees and you cant do a thing for me, when PP would have at least made them return the item. I was told by one MP CSR that ebay can't match what PP provided because PP is a unique situation and actually admitted moving forward I will likely lose every chargeback someone makes. They refused to give any details on the decision or why they made it just that each case is unique.
Needless to say very demoralizing and I will have to really look to speed up my movement away from ebay. In 20 + years with PP I had 3, maybe 4 disputes which PP closed and in one case made the buyer return my item. In 8 months in MP I have had 2, one because ebay never refunded the buyer on a cancellation the buyer requested and I refunded!
Now out 1500 and the money I had in the item. Sux

Don't let eBay steal the $1500 from you. Block your checking account. Block your credit card.

Then again, I see that you have thousands of listings. You may just have to call eBay and chat with them on Facebook and Twitter until you reach someone who speaks English as a first language.

I feel for you. I have had 6 chargeback in 5 months in Managed Payments! In 20 years with Paypal I had only one chargeback and they resolved it my favor within 5 minutes on the phone!!!
I have lost 2 of the chargebacks through MP and they provided no seller protection as promised by many merchant support CS reps leading up to it.
The new ebay scam is well underway- People now know that you can just wait till the 30 day return window closes and do a chargeback claiming item not as described and they will get the item and there money.
Ebay is facilitating internet fraud and theft with their MP policies!!- PAYPAL required that the buyer return the item before closing the case- at least that is ETHICAL
This is becoming an epidemic on ebay
EBAY NEEDS TO RETHINK THE FLEECING OF SELLERS BEFORE WE ARE ALL GONE

It is not the fault of Managed Payments, which has nothing to do with the chargeback. It's the fault of the downhill changes in Ebay Customer NoService, which does not speak with one reliable voice, that just happened to coincide with MP coming on board.
I agree that Ebay MUST revamp Seller Protections, which is where the problem resides, to adequately face the obvious scams that are costing sellers way too much money and ultimately encourage some sellers to jump ship. I cannot blame the sellers that want to leave, when Ebay CS Reps don't give reliable information and have no authority to solve a problem like this when it comes up.
Until Ebay correctly acts on this type of situation: Never, Ever sell and ship a higher-value item on Ebay, unless your business model is prepared to absorb the loss of the item AND your money. Shipping just adds a lot of scam possibilities, with the seller having lost control of the item. Use Local Pickup instead, or a venue like CraigsList, where you have a lot more control over the item, where and when to meet the potential buyer, you can negotiate a cash sale, which takes chargebacks out of the question, the buyer sees the item in person, accepts it as-is, pays cash for it, then leaves with a handshake... Done!
Granted, with Local Pickup it will take longer for you to sell your higher-value item, but at least you will avoid potential scams and not be out both your item AND your money on a chargeback, whether a scam or not.
I'm really sorry to hear this problem once again on this forum, and wish you luck in the possibility of having a successful appeal.
Cheers, Duffy

Of all the nonstop complaints about MP, this is the real legit money losing issue with it. PP at least put up a bit of a fight for you. Ebay barely lets you respond. With a real world charge back, you can respond each time the buyer responds, not this upload one picture and that's it you lose B S.
So far I've had 6 chargebacks under MP. Ebay ate 2 and refunded the buyer themselves, won 1 no refund, lost 1 for $170ish, and 2 are still open. I can only see these increasing in the future.

I think one of the questions that needs to be answered is: Why has this increased exponentially under MP?
I'm wondering if the text in on the bank statement says something unrecognizable or strange.
Several sellers have contacted their buyers via message, reminded them of the purchase (for the unrecognized charge claim) and the buyers have withdrawn the chargeback.
Something is amiss here..
Somebody needs to fight for sellers in these claims. As PP did.
The item must be required to be returned.
Usually sellers are allowed to fight their own battles but eBay being the one fighting on our behalf?
How hard are they trying? When a loss doesn't cost them a dime...
SORRY @esg-enterprises I feel your pain!!

Yup these scammers wait for the 30 day window to close and baamam file a chargeback!! It doesn't matter what proof you have, who you shipped it with or tracking etc etc. Ebay is just giving sellers items away for free. Its making ebay look bad. Soon all you'll have on here is the junky items of no real value because that's all that sellers will be willing to risk.

Maybe we have to start photographing the shipping label laying on the item in the box as proof?? We have had more chargebacks this year than ever in 20 years of selling here too.

Who really knows but you'd think the buyers would follow the sellers if we all went there.

I have to admit I am cluess about chargebacks and MP
in 20 years I had 2 chargebacks at paypal and won both of them
sellers keep mentioning this one picture response thing
that wont work for me because I need to explain things in a text box..........paragaphs
at least with paypal I had the option to request a return for a refund
cant you just say send it back for a refund with a chargeback at MP?

So many different takes on the issues - I am a bit confused as to what is being discussed on the thread.
1. An INR or INAD is the MBG process buyers use if within the 30 day limit (which has been around long
before MP)
2. Paypal claim is what the buyer can make if longer than 30 days or if eBay found in favour of the seller
3. A Chargeback is what a buyer initiates through their credit card provider (this one has little to nothing do with MP (or Paypal or even eBay) and the seller get's slugged an extra $20 for it.

No3, man did you even read OP? I'm sorry if I'm coming off a little grumpy but this is starting to get real. How is ebay NOT even supporting their sellers. They're just bending over to the chargebacks. Even if the sellers have proof of shipping.

No sadly, you can't..
I have no idea what eBay is doing/saying to defend us in the chargeback claims but they surely are NOT saying to return the item.
If you ever have one; the advice is to get all your evidence combined, including whatever text you wish to submit and take a photo of it. That way you can submit multiple photos and a statement, sort of an all-in-one.
I haven't personally experienced this yet but I am not looking forward to the day it happens.
SIGH

Well such is an easy thing to do to get free stuff.
And since it now shows a a charge by ebay and not the seller some think ebay is charging em for some thing the did not authorize..
As for such; the card address should be were an item is sent: for online that should be the only way any payment system could cover the seller and them self's for such charge backs and unauthorized charges.
