Had an E-Bay item sell (BUY IT NOW) it was paid for immediately with a credit card through PayPal. The item was delivered and buyer posted positive feedback. Three weeks later buyer files a chargeback through his credit card institution and claims the item was paid for by different means. PayPal takes the money from my account and informs me that it will take 75 days for a response from the buyers financial institution at which time there's no possibility of an appeal.
Anybody experience this? First time for me and I'm in my 16th year on E-Bay with 100%

I've only had a couple of chargebacks in my 20 years of selling here.
I just had to show that I shipped to the address attached to the payment, and the chargeback was taken care of by Paypal.

I've never heard of a Chargeback for "Paid for by different means". What exactly is that?

That is just standard stuff that PP says to cover themselves. That does NOT mean that you do nothing and wait for up to 75 days. To do that is likely to insure you will never get that money back.
The first think I do when I get a chargeback is gather ALL the information I can lay my hands on.
Did they leave FB [I know you stated yes], then I screenshot exactly what they said and save that.
If I have any emails from them in Ebay, I gather those.
I review the buyer's FB they have received and what they have left for others in case there is anything there that might be useful.
I get the tracking on the item that shows Delivered.
If they had previously filed an Ebay claim on the item, I get all that information.
Armed with that and anything else I can think of, I then go to my PP account, then the resolution center and I log everything in and attach whatever I think is useful to PP. When I'm done with that, depending on my mood, I may call PP right away or I may wait until the next day. But I always call within 24 hours to go over everything I put into the resolution center in PP to discuss it and get a feel for what PP is going to do.
And something that really should be a given, but I've found very important to remind PP of. If I did everything I was suppose to so that I'm covered by Seller Protection, I remind them of that in the phone call. It is part of why we pay Ebay these fees is for the Seller protection.
FYI. While I may not get these as often as some sellers, I've been here a long time and never lost a chargeback. I hope my record remains that way. I do hope this information will help you.
Please come back and tell us how things are going for you and ask all the questions you need to. No matter how small or large.

Was the reason given that it wasn't an authorized recurring charge, something like that? With that one, it appears that sellers do not have any recourse from what I've read in these boards.
Per what they provided in their OP, they said as follows "Three weeks later buyer files a chargeback through his credit card institution and claims the item was paid for by different means."

I've read about that too. Just my opinion, but that seems like a class action law suit just waiting to happen!!!

Hello,
I had a chargeback this last weekend on Saturday for a purchase that was made exactly 60 days before. I swear I had forgot about these. I mainfly work with XBOX One Controllers and for the specific model, this buyer got 2 with a total of about 89ish dollars, promptly shipped and delivered Business as Usual.
One thing made me wonder: Well, this buyer had no more leverage to return since I offered 30-day return and in my experience on eBay, electronics are a category that has high rates since these customers are usually very picky - GAMERS.
He just filled a Unauthorized Transaction accordingly and PayPal of course held this lump sum from my account and exactly like yours , it could take up to 75 days but no action was needed since there was tracking information uploaded and on the next day Sunday 14th, they said it was all fine so I won the case.
This individual acted like a smarty pants and embarrassed himself and forgot simple things like: His PayPal user was verified, his phone number and address verified on eBay and PayPal, USPS Tracking shows that the item was left with Individual - Probably him and last but not least , IP Address - yay! This is an old hat trick that everyone knows, it is boring but from time to time people try to pull it off but it DOES NOT WORK.
To sum up, this took just one day to PayPal verify and probably argue about on my behalf with the Individual Bank and say, Good Lucky Buddy and I didn't need to to anything in this case.
Once you have your shipping label generated as in PayPal, you're good and I usually put a signature confirmation when I sell an expensive item with my own value threshold so it gives a bit more leverage to beat this cases.
Good luck for you!

Keep in mind that just because a buyer files a claim in PP is it NOT a chargeback. A chargeback is ONLY created when a buyer pays with a CC and goes to their CCC and files a dispute on the charge.
PP has an easier time of dealing with claims that are created in PP. But the stuff you say above is very accurate. Those records are very important in battling a claim or a chargeback that when they are saying they did not order or they did not receive the item.
