'Cart purchase question'

Prior to explaining I want to dispel any possible responses that may float in regarding the buyers honesty. The buyer is also a seller and likely frequents this room, has been in contact with me over the issue and it is 'territory' that is unfamiliar to both of us. Now that said lets jump in.

This morning I had my first 'Cart Purchase' meaning the customer placed two items in the cart and then purchased 'but not paid immediately' and sent me a message asking about combined shipping.

Now I dont typically set up the mechanics of my listings to automatically engage in combined shipping because a lot of the items I sell are not uniform in size, in this case there was no way for me to reduce the shipping costs due to the irregular shape of one of the items and how it would place keeping the item protected in transit, and the buyer was absolutely ok with that.

However the 'waiting for payment' section of my ebay was listing 1 item waiting for payment and when I would expand it, it would show the 2 items separately. In my messages inbox there was a request for invoice that showed both items and their price. so figuring it had combined the two items into one shipment I gave an invoice with shipping that would reflect shipping both items together in one box. When the customer got the invoice it only showed one of the items on the buyers end but once I clarified that the shipping listed would be for both items the customer paid the 1 invoice and both items popped up as sold and paid for. (no $ numbers are off here the proper amount for both items and shipping have been paid)

HOWEVER. Now my ebay is showing it once again as two separate items. So in this case I am confident that I dont have anything to worry about where the buyer is concerned but for the sake of future understanding and to cover my backside if this ever happens again, what does everyone suggest I do to protect myself?

Am I able to use the 1 tracking number for both items? Do I say screw it, split the items up and ship them as two separate packages so I can cover tracking?

Re: 'Cart purchase question'

Are you using Seller Hub or MyEbay?  I've never seen the seller hub order screen behave the way you describe.

Check the Order Record number on the two and make sure it's the same.  Regardless, if the buyer did pay for both with the understanding of combined shipping then I would have no qualms about shipping in one box.  As long as the buyer paid from a single account (sounds like they did) you can add the tracking number to the second item if necessary, though you should not need to.

Re: 'Cart purchase question'

Does it show two separate items under one transaction or two different transactions. Is there one check box next to both items or do they have separate check boxes.

In either case, if you select both of them and select the drop down for shipping labels, it will give you the option to combine them if they are separate.

Re: 'Cart purchase question'

Part of the order was handled via the Android app as I was still waking up first thing in the morning and thats where it was giving me those strange results. Then I got on my computer after it was paid and it was split into two items. Even now while looking at my phone I show 3 items (paid - ship now) Paypal shows 1 transaction ID

On my computer It looks like this:
