Cancelling 1 of 2 items

One item I sell is a low-dollar service. I have had people want to cancel the service after the item was paid for in the past and after I cancel the purchase for them I get refunded for my seller fees.

A couple of times people bought 2 of these services, even though they would see no benefits from buying multiples so after I tell them that I have let them know and after confirming it's what they want, I issue a partial refund. I did this not realizing that I don't get credited for the fees for the second item.

Today I tried to cancel 1 of 2 of the same services purchased only to find there is no option to do so.

I call ebay only to find out that the only way to do it is to issue a partial refund through Paypal, THEN call customer service back to get the fees removed from my account. Since this is a low-dollar service this is really a waste of time and money overall since the amount I gain by calling them a second time just is not worth the time loss.

Ebay not allowing cancelling a single item by sellers at a buyers request like this is crazy. Making it time consuming for sellers to get their fees back seems like just a way to keep the extra fees and is not right to the people who are providing the goods and services that sellers are providing their platform to provide buyers.

Things like this, and other practices towards sellers, are causing sellers to look for other selling options. Personally I really love ebay and hate the other major selling platform out there but these kind of things, even though they might not seem like a big thing, are something that could cause sellers to leave ebay and sell elsewhere.

I don't want to see that happen but unless ebay wants to address and fix things like this they are going to keep losing ground to other selling platforms.

This might be a situation where you could use the site preferences buyer block that prevents members from purchasing more than one item from a listing within a 10-day period.  If a buyer has a legitimate reason to purchase more than one, you can put them on your exemption list.

Thanks for your reply.

I would do that but I actually sell multiples of my service to buyers who actually need multiples. Doing an exemption list will cost me sales because if a buyer can't buy the quantity they need they will just buy from someone else.

The problem occurs when a few buyers don't actually read the listing before they make their purchase.

It would be nice if ebay would let sellers cancel one (or more if needed) items/services. This is just one of the things that ebay does that makes things harder on sellers and something else that may drive sellers away.

Thanks again for your reply, your input is appreciated.

I think the only way to do this within the system and avoid phone calls is to have the buyer file a remorse return "changed mind" and make sure they select that it's for a quantity of 1- not their complete order of 2. Then you can refund without requiring a return for just the 1 item and get your FVF credit.
