HI i had an auction going for a controller. Unfortunately, about half way into the auction, the controller became waterdamaged. As you know, you can not cancel an auction once bids have been placed. So I waited until the second the auction ended so that i could cancel the order before the buyer paid so that they wouldnt not have to wait a long time for refund etc. Unfortunately, i canceled at about the same time the buyer paid now i think it is bugged. On my side i get a paid ship now message, but when i click the order it says the order is canceled. Also the money is now stuck as pending in my paypal so i cant directly refund the buyer. The buyer has been completely cooperative and has contacted ebay, who said the order is cancelled and i have to refund the buyer. I cant do that right now as i mentioned earlier the money is pending. Is there a fix to all of this to just get it canceled completely

Of course you can, if you have at least 12 hours left. You first cancel each bid, then end the auction.

I acrually did not know this. Thank you for telling me, but do you know how to resolve my issue?

Wait until the money clears and then return it back.
You did not handle it the right way unfortunately and probably ended up with a defect.

Well if a defect is bad feedback i doubt it as the buyer is very understanding and cooperative. But surely, there is a bug in the system no? On my end i canceled the order smoothly as i would any other. Issue is that it did not “cancel”. If the buyer paid then i do not understand why it let me cancel with no confirmation or error saying the buyer has already paid. I canceled the order as if the buyer had yet to pay, when in reality he did. Btw i am fairly a noob to how ebay works so i understand i may have mishandled the situation
___________________________________________________________________No a defect is when a seller cancels a transaction when there is not a good reason to do so, such as out of stock or when an item is not in sellable condition.
Ebay feels that it makes for an unahappy buyer.

Notice how it says canceled at thr top but then normal sold message right under.
Cancel confirmation but this other pictures are what ebay is still showing me as well

Yes, you got an out of stock defect. Be very careful because another one or two and you could lose your ability to sell here.
Money should automatically go back to your buyer.

Wow i dont understand these rules and stuff. I understand why they are put into place obviously, but how is not sellable condition not a good reason. The controller literally got waterlogged by my little brother while i was away. I understand i shouldve been more responsible, but im not ever going to ship a broken item to a buyer. But regards to what you said, i should not need to do anything further, it will automatically refund?

What is happening in your situation is - it looks like you are a new seller and have holds on your account.
So that is why the money is pending.
You may have to call paypal and ask that they return the money back to the buyer, since you cannot do it.
As far as your item getting damaged, yes it can be unfair. But ebay looks at it from the buyer's perspective that he will now be disappointed.
So in the future you need to be very careful when and how you cancel a listing. There is a right and wrong way to do it. And OOS is very detrimental to your acount.

Hi, this info below may not help you on this transaction but might in the future.
There was a way for you to end your auction early, if there was more than 12 hours remaining. You could have cancelled the bids and then ended the listing. The catch is that ebay might charge you a fee for doing this. (You get one “free pass” a year.)
Below is the link to ebay’s policy on ending a listing early with instructions on how to do it and what fees could be involved. Good luck to you on your current situation.
