Can we finally give refunds without getting defects or making the buyer jump through hoops?

The rare times a buyer wants a refund, I used to always have to make them jump through hoops by opening an item not received case because if you refunded without the buyer doing that you got a defect.

I now seem to be able to cancel a paid order and choose "Buyer chose to cancel" to refund them, we don't get a defect when we do this right?

Thank you

As long as the buyer truly said they want to cancel through eBay, then yes.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

True, but the buyer isn't very protected if it's a SNAD return and they are relying on you for a refund plus shipping (no offense). Nor even if they just didn't like it and you're willing to refund if they return on their dime.

The official process may seem like jumping through hoops, but it protects everyone - a cancellation doesn't generate postage or provide for tracking, nothing is on record in terms of shipping, etc. Plus, the buyer has to back you up if Ebay checks.

In a return situation, it really is better to use the process in place.

But you won’t get your 30c transaction fee back from PayPal....awesome.

Never, ever open an item not received case on your buyer, you don't know where it's been, or who is holding the stick with the carrot to jump through hoops of fire!

That's interesting. And all of the buyer's in the past agreed to open an INR??

Wait. I just reread the OP. Opening INRs instead of just cancelling? Items weren’t shipped yet?

No I believe they were already shipped and buyer received. And rather have the buyer file a return request, persuade the buyer to file an INR so you can agree to refund once the buyer returns the item to you on their dime.

I hope I'm incorrect in what I'm assuming. But if I'm right, that is why I asked... "And all of the buyers you've done this with have agreed to file the INR?" 😕

BTW OP, if the buyer files a remorse return, you won't get a defect. That's unless you don't accept returns though.

If I wanted to return something I bought from you, I would never agree to your "demand". Furthermore, I would consider you to be unscrupulous, and probably never buy from you again. Am I missing something? I understand there's an issue, but using the buyer to accomplish your means is not right. And what about the effect on the buyers?

I know it's not right, but it's the only option eBay now gives us. Also, giving the buyer a refund is not "accomplish(ing) your means", it's giving the buyer what they are asking for. Many years ago you could just refund the buyer if they asked for a refund, now they must open a request to cancel the order for a seller to be able to refund, I've always thought this was a ridiculous policy but they say it's because they assume you were out of stock if you're refunding so they give you an out of stock defect which you are only allowed 0.3% or 0.5%, I think it has changed in the past. This means refunding just 2-3 buyers without you making them open a cancel request could get you banned.

Luckily this seems to have now changed as we can again refund buyers without getting a defect.
