Can someone explain to me....

What the issue with GTC is? True I sell very little, I don’t sell hundreds of items a month or anything but I also refuse to give my vintage items away so I’ll hold out for the sales. I used to list GTC most of the time. I stopped using it some when Ebay starting deleting “stale” listings but I love that feature and I don’t even mind it being “forced” on me.

I woukd like to hear good valid reasons why it’s such a big deal. We’ve already been told when to list to get minimal charges and I do most of my listing mid month anyway. You all know the update could’ve been much worse than it was/is this time.

Those of us with more inventory than store allotments has been addressed as we rotate inventory. Another thing is how is this advantageous to a seller of used, antique or collectibles ? The video on youtube right now shows how it will gain more attention to items with UPCs - mostly new or new old stock. For those of us with items where there isn't a UPC - what are our chances of gaining more visibility? I need more specifics and don't want to blindly accept an idea because Ebay says it will be good for me. As I've stated earlier - I've tried all their gimmicks - and not all work for me.

It's the added burden of trying to avoid extra fees.  Last year, Ebay started eliminating GTC listings that had been listed for a year or more and had not sold.

It's been said that the longer a GTC listing goes, the more it sinks in visibility.  Certainly it may help those with UPCs, but as to one of items...

This seems to be a paradox.

What is that old saying about "waiting for the other shoe to drop"?

They said "Cheer up, things could be worse. " So I cheered up, and things got worse.

I do not pay insertion fees. I use my 50 free listings on each selling account, and when I get a free listing special I take advantage of it.

Now when I take advantage of a 500 free listing special, I have to be diligent about taking them down, because I will be charge $150 if they renew.

Paying $150 a month in listing fees when I used to pay $0 a month would be a very big issue for me.

Any seller who wanted the benefits of GTC already had that option available . This change does not add anything new to eBay; it simply took away an option that was integral to many sellers' strategies.

If you want to know the REASON besides what others have said here click on the NEW POST "Why is EBAY Charging Me Listing Fees". This is the FIRST PERSON who just got hit with an UNEXPECTED $150 bill for using the app I am assuming and being unaware of the consequences for just LETTING GTC ROLL OVER! I am sure there will be HUNDREDS more when this goes into affect and people get their first bill!

Now you're seeing the big picture.  As if free listings didn't drag you in far enough the first time, now we'll make you pay for thinking you can sell stuff for free online.  You show 'em big boy!  MAKE US GREAT 🙂

Just a quick point.  The 2019 spring seller update has not been released yet.  This is just an early look at the seller update with just a few things mentioned.

When you say "such a big deal"  Are you referring this in a good way or a bad way or both opinions?

One of the reason many are not liking it is because they think this is going to hurt them in search.  But if all FP listings are now GTC listing then there is no disadvantage to any specific listing just because it is a GTC listing.

Also eBay is moving to the catalog shopping experience more and more each week so like items are going to be shown together on the unique item pages anyways.  So a professional SEO listing writer will be shown next a an amateur listing writer for the exact same item.

There are basically two more complaints about it as well

  • renewing of GTC (30 day listing) on the same billing cycle
  • The extra work it is going to cause some sellers who rotate more listings than they are allowed to prevent to many listing fees.

Good Luck Selling!

I guess I don’t understand why everyone is so against and threatening to leave eBay etc...

I realize the full update isn’t out yet but we have an idea of what it will be and I just don’t understand the problem with GTC. Personally I like it because I don’t have to worry about relisting. I usually have less than 100 items listed and I guess it could cause problems if a seller has thousands of listings but I just don’t think it’ll affect most of us that much.

I just wanted to understand why it’s a problem for so many. Sorry I haven’t been back. My blood sugar is going nutso. I guess I gotta get on insulin next week. If I’m not back here for a few days that’s why. I have my appointment Tuesday to try to figure it out. Wish me luck!

I don't think it is just the prospect of the possibility of more fees, it is the perception that more control over listings is going to be out of seller's hands.

Good luck with your appointment.

It is a problem because it is being forced on sellers.  The only way to go unless you want to do auctions.

And if a seller wants to sell under the GTC program, that is fine.  But many would rather not have their items  re-listed unless they control the when and why they are re-listing.

It is basically taking control of the items out of the sellers hands unless they consistently babysit the site.

COYOTES RULE!!!

I think one of the biggest hits will be to the sellers that have built up quite a few listings and must depend on ebay's free listing promos to keep them going---raising my hand on one of my IDs.    Once they roll off, I hold them for the next promo and never pay fees on them.   Now they will need to managed daily after my 50 free listings are used up--which could happen on day one of the month.

So I'm not too concerned about the few times a listing might get charged twice within a month.  I'm more concerned about the first charge if the quantities are great.

Nearly all my listings are GTC anyway so it won't make any difference to me.  For folks who rotate listings in and out, that is a problem.

I rotate listings and it isn't going to be an issue for me at all.  I already check my listings every morning to see what is going to be ending in the next 24 hours so I can decide whether to relist it or not.  The only difference is that now I will be deciding whether to end a listing rather than relist it, but the amount of time and effort involved will be exactly the same.
