Calculated shipping with first class combined weights won't work.

Calculated shipping with first class combined weights won't work.

Been trying to get this to work prior to the USPS changes on the 26th.

Set the combined shipping in preferences to combine with a discount and the price for shipping and First Class Package.

But when testing the weights are not combined and the package rate is charged and added together on each item.

Anyone gotten this to work, am i doing something wrong?

I have yet to actually see that happen or see any solid, clear evidence of it happening. I do see lots of posts about the calculator being broken because it isn't doing things that it never did, but some expect it to do.

A good reason to just read them AFTER they close = )

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

I mostly showed the path in my posts above - a combined calculated shipping rule of the "combine all item weights and subtract an amount" flavor. It works - i tested it.

What sucks about the combined calculated rules is that you can have only one. I need ti have a "don't combine or discount anything" one to handle my dim weight multi-qty listings where they can't be put in a single package without terrible things happening, but that means I can't use a "combine all item weights and subtract an amount" rule on other listings with lighter small objects (you can have multiples of that variety with different subtract weights via profiles, but can't mix rule types).

Re: Calculated shipping with first class combined weights won't work.

I spent the last day trying every combination in the preferences for combined calculated shipping and was not able to get it to work.

It continued to overcharge by not combining and adding the same charge to each item and then adding them together.

Hi @colonelmarlowe  - will you get me an item number example I can test with?

@berserkerplanet has a very comprehensive understanding of combined shipping and is correct with the way things should work. In practical application, however, things can occasionally be quirky.

If you'll get us an example item number tag myself, trinton or Brian.t and we'll do some tinkering!

(Also thanks for the page @dhbookds!)

Re: Calculated shipping with first class combined weights won't work.

Because it would be overcharging every buyer who bought more than one item and tried to check out, I reverted back to Flat Rate which works.

Now I will just over charge every buyer by charging the USPS FC Fee to zone 8 on every item.

I would change 2 items to calculated, however I have also found as has others, that trying to use calculated shipping also unchecks the "Apply Flat Rate Rule" on all listings.

I have more than one account and have found the same problem and behavior on each.

This is a system problem.

Hi @colonelmarlowe  - definitely understand the frustration, and I'm happy to have this looked into for further clarification and to see what can be done to get the system to work as you'd like it to!

If you get me an item number I can start taking a look.

Re: Calculated shipping with first class combined weights won't work.

You know what's sad? It's not hard to code.

Since eBay's calculator works so badly, I coded my own, because I wanted to know, within a close tolerance, what the package would weigh and what it would cost without having to add it up manually and constantly look at charts.

My code doesn't just estimate the correct weight for combined items, it also takes into consideration the packaging. All I have to do is tell it whether it's a mailer or box, and the size. It works. It only took me about three days to code it and a couple of hours to tweak it. I've been using it for about 11 years without problems.

Ebay has whole programming departments and they can't do this? I simply cannot comprehend it. It borders on incompetence.
